A new "Dangerous Tale" for your Sunday! On a patch of space outside a country house, a lifeless area lies waiting. Waiting to take away the very essence of being... Enjoy "The Transfer" by Algernon Blackwood:

We had fun solving the mystery of the Reading Witch 🧙 this weekend! Great fun, and I think the birthday girl enjoyed herself too

We had a great time at @MillersArk this afternoon - so many great animals, and the volunteers are brilliant. Plus I got to see the lovely donkey Moon who was kidnapped a while back (she’s doing very well now) 🫏

The website is (understandably) slow at the moment, but I managed to get onto Electoral Calculus to see what the analysis/prediction is for Makerfield (this is just if it was part of a general election now, rather than the potentially dramatic specifics of a by-election): 🤓

Neat! Community Notes *do* seem to work. They reduce the number of reposts for posts that get them, cutting down on their reach and limiting the spread of misinformation!

We went to see a delightful treat hidden in Hartley Wintney this weekend: the beautiful gardens of West Green House 🪴

A short & sweet one for you today: Ignoring warnings of a curse, the 47th Count of Wrightstone goes to spend time in his historic family castle. If he's lucky, he might merely LIVE to regret it. But if the curse is real, an even worse fate awaits him...

Okay, this is interesting. Two parties are tied for second. I know that in Holyrood, there’s not an “official opposition”, but the second-largest party DOES get to ask its questions first in the Scottish equivalent of PMQs. So who gets that, Labour or Reform UK? 🧐

In 1880, a newborn in the US could expect to live to 39. Today, 78. Most people think that's just because fewer babies died. It's not. A 45-year-old back then could expect to reach 68. Now it's 82. A 65-year-old? Gained nearly a decade. Even 80-year-olds live 3 years longer. We didn't fix one thing at the start of life. We got better at keeping people alive at every stage of it. That's a huge win for all. @OurWorldInData
