Mang'u stood out too. Offered Power Mechanics, Electrical, Woodwork, Agric, Building & Construction, Aviation, Computer & Science Labs. Equipping them was a different thing, but lay the foundation for many folks.
BTW, there were a few schools who used to offer full technical education in the 8:4:4 school, which sort of combined ordinary secondary school and a basic polytechni. Nyeri Technical and Kajiado Technical comes to mind. They were very good with woodwork. Also, Don Bosco has run something close, both with mechanical training, electrical work etc. Don Bosco would train class 8 leavers, I believe at craft level.

Even now in Ukambani, there's this old belief that's stuck around us. We don't keep too many goats. The thinking is they strip the land bare. And me personally? I always assumed this advice came from the Agriculture department.
Muindi Mbingu aliongoza (wakamba) wenzake (3,000) kutembea kutoka Machakos mpaka Central Police ku protest the destocking policy (wakoloni walichukua ng'ombe zao ati ni mingi mpaka zina cause erosion zikitembea - then wakajenga slaughter house kuzichinja - KMC ya Athi River).

This is Insane 😧 "He led Kamba men, women, and children on a ~60 km march from Machakos areas (e.g., Ngelani, Koma Rock) to Nairobi. They camped for weeks (around 6 weeks) at Kariokor (then Carrier Corps market), maintaining a disciplined, non-violent presence"

True; Masjid Landhies is actually a Kenyan national monument. The mosque was built in 1899 by Punjabi muslims railway workers. It's older than the Jamia mosque
Replying to @bioanokoooo
Now, ‘Landhies’ wasn’t really named after a person. I think the etymology is Indian (to mean ‘lands’), but it was a name that referred to the low-income estates/houses of the Kenya-Uganda railway workers. Later influenced landi-mawe & landi-mabati. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.…

I recently captured a shot, part of Kayawhe River in Kariūwa, Kanyenyainī, Kangema Mūranga. Kayahwe Road in Kilimani memorises the River. Historically, "The Kayahwe River Massacre was a tragic ambush by British colonial forces against the Mau Mau, which occurred in 1953 alongside the Kayahwe River in Kenya’s Central Province during the liberation struggle. It is remembered as one of the largest single-day setbacks for the freedom fighters." I don't know the exact point of the masacre. Initially, I never thought Kayahwe is a Central Kenya name. Sounded Coastal to me.
Mniulize kuhusu street names za Kanairo (street toponymy). Ndio nione ka najua historia (na urban planning) as much as I think I do (and write).

Some context What I want to do is bring 20 more devs to Nyamarambe, each earning a minimum of 150k a month. Most of them will come from Nairobi. We're also preparing for the next cohort of students in September. By the end of next year, Reduzer alone is going to pump around Ksh 6 million a month through salaries, and I don't want that money going elsewhere. I want it to circulate in this town. The biggest issue right now is housing, both residential and commercial. My devs are coming from Nairobi, and they're forced to look for decent houses in Kisii or Rongo. They need a good place to stay, nice hotels, entertainment, a good social life which is not here yet. So I've started renting individual houses and renovating them. It's a proof of concept. I want to show the landlords here what it means to provide decent living, and show them that people are actually willing to pay for it. It's a long shot, but I'm very hopeful, since this is something Reduzer is genuinely interested in
It has just occurred to me that I pay rent for 10 different houses in Nyamarambe

National Addressing Bill ya 2025? Hehe parliament.go.ke/sites/defau… Well, eeh, ilikuwa i-guide the establishment of a National Addressing Council na County Addressing Committees. Bado wana-i-discuss, as per 2 months ago: facebook.com/story.php?story…

Pia there was something in parliament kuhusu street naming & addressing sijui ilifikia wapi

(This is Bettina Ng’weno’s book - No Place Like Home in a New City, but…) Martin and Bezemer, two architectural historians who studied the history of Nairobi’s native public housing (1918 - 1948), wrote about landhi, landi-mabati & landi-mawe here: tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.…

Oh in Kisumu there's a style of housing named "Landi" so I think ni same origin.

Kwanza hapo kwa ukosefu wa ORS, walitukosea sana. Waliamua tukunywe maji mpaka mwisho, kisha wakatupea soda 🤣🤣 And then story ya washrooms, aaaaaaah!
Support in NCM is just minimalistic compared to SCM by far. Like today it was just water, no coke, ors, salt, and bananas only, no melon, oranges Also when you cross to past 21km you can go as far 5km to get a support station. There were fewer toilets along the course.

Washroom ya kwanza ilikuwa kwa 5km mark (which is too early anyway, so ungei-dismiss) then the next one ilikuwa kwa 15km mark (na ni moja tu, to be shared by everyone 😔). Jameni. Huo si ungwana!
