The SLO program is not without incident. Nothing is. Those incidents should be thoroughly reviewed with a commitment to further improvements and training.
Intimate partner violence is an epidemic across this country. Victim-survivors need all the tools available to navigate safety. There is an entire generation of mothers and children living with post-separation abuse and it needs to end ⚖️

ALT BILL C-225 An Act to amend the Criminal Code Private Member’s Bill C-225 would amend the Criminal Code to create a new first-degree murder offence if the murder is committed against an intimate partner in the context of a pattern of coercive or controlling conduct. Among other things, the bill would also require a court to consider a sentence of life imprisonment if the offender were to commit manslaughter against their intimate partner while engaging in, or after having engaged in, a pattern of coercive or controlling conduct.

I advocate for law reform and an end to domestic and intimate partner violence. In my advocacy, I am often critical of police and their response to intimate partner violence. I do, however, support school liaison officers.
For women who continue to experience violence post-separation, or for mothers who share children with abusers, school liaison officers can be a lifeline to safety.
We know all too well that you can have all the court orders you want in place, but an abuser is never going to follow them. Victim-survivors know this, police know this, and victim support agencies know this. Women and children deserve safety and peace ⚖️ #VanPoli
SLOs are prevention. They’re also mentors, connectors, early intervention.
The BC’s Human Rights Commissioner agrees the changes we made are working: “Really glad to see real changes that made a difference. Don’t be scared of evaluation.” Public safety starts with our kids.

I've teamed up with many of the police officers over the years to speak in schools on gang prevention, addiction prevention, harm reduction and recovery. It's always been good, and it's definitely changed from the way it once was.

The BCNDP is attacking KLF as "Maple MAGA," but why have they handed Ken Sim and ABC Vancouver virtually everything they've asked for on their extreme, law and order agenda?
The BCNDP supports extreme policies at the local level but not the provincial level?
This council has done virtually nothing to make intimate partner violence a public-safety priority, and the Province has never demanded that urgency from them on the issue of public safety.

Mayor Ken Sim and ABC are focused on keeping Vancouver safe through a balanced, compassionate approach.
Over the past three years, Vancouver has taken action where others would not:
✅ Did not renew the Seymour OPS lease after serious impacts on the surrounding neighbourhood.
✅ Fully funded VPD and all the 55 needed frontline mental health nurses when other levels of government were slow to act, resulting in the lowest violent crime rate in 23 years.
✅ Removed dangerous Hastings Street encampments that had been entrenched for years and restored access to sidewalks and public spaces.
✅ Successfully called on the Province to end its failed decriminalization policy and restore baseline public safety.
✅ Brought together mayors from across the region to call for mandatory care and better treatment options for those struggling.
✅ Endorsed Task Force Barrage in the Downtown Eastside, contributing to a 44% reduction in robberies, an 18% reduction in violent crime, and a 34% reduction in structural fires.
✅ Supported the establishment of a dedicated policing district for the Downtown Eastside and surrounding areas, ensuring greater focus and dedicated resources for the neighbourhood.
✅ Opened a new police training centre in the former Woodward's building, bringing approximately 300 law enforcement professionals into the neighbourhood every day and creating long-term structural change.
✅ Continued to push the Province to remove dangerous SROs from Granville Street that contribute to street disorder, crime, and unsafe living conditions for residents.
We haven't gotten everything right, but Vancouver is moving in the right direction, and there is still more work to be done.
We will continue to fight for mandatory care, meaningful expansions in treatment and recovery services, appropriate safeguards around OPS locations, and actions on some of the City’s most problematic SROs and supportive housing facilities.
We can't afford to go back to the failures of previous administrations.
Let's keep Vancouver moving forward.
