CIHR funding rate: 13.6%. Early 2000s: 30% . Canada’s new $1.7B Impact program recruits talent — but without increased Tri-Council base funding, we risk further strain on an already stretched system. We’re calling for $1B over 5 years. Support here: tinyurl.com/33c5av46

A 🧵 As a young girl growing up in Québec, Canada, I found my joy in smell of 🍁🍃🌿, the rhythm of rivers, & the quiet strength of the forest I was a Girl Scout who loved canoeing & exploring nature, but I had no idea what I wanted to study @USherbrooke @ISME_microbes 1/

Children born extremely preterm are born in the midst of a cytokine storm, its barrier tissues are poorly developed and they require invasive procedures which is associated with high risks of infections and inflammatory complications. Better understanding of how immune cells evolve in such children is needed and here @BunmiOlaloye @LizaKonnikova lab provide important insights towards this: science.org/doi/10.1126/scit…

Standing behind our PM. 🇨🇦💪🏼 It’s not going to be easy but I cannot in good conscience support the use of Canadian grant funds on US travel or research supplies.
Today, the United States launched a trade war against Canada: their closest partner and ally — their closest friend. Canadians are reasonable, but we will not back down from a fight. Not when our country is at stake.
