The newly constructed wetland at the Children’s Village will naturally purify wastewater. Used for irrigation, this low-cost system improves sanitation, promotes a diverse array of wildlife, sequesters carbon dioxide, and offers additional green space.

ALT In the Children’s Village, we are using a constructed wetland to filter organic materials and pollutants from the water that has already been treated in a septic tank. Like a natural wetland, the engineered systems uses the capacity of the soil, plants, and micro-organisms to clean the water.
The newly constructed wetland at the Kao La Amani Children’s Village will naturally purify wastewater. The treated water will be used for irrigation. This low-cost system improves sanitation, promotes a diverse array of wildlife, sequesters carbon dioxide, and offers additional green space.
The many sustainable building features of the Kao La Amani Children's Village open-plan dining area include a timber frame and locally sourced sisal fibre, solar heating, and rainwater harvesting.
