5. Another @ICRAR PhD student, Katy Proctor (@AstroK80), describing her work on intra-halo light and what it can tell us about galaxy assembly. Very cool research and I’m looking forward to seeing where this work goes 🌟

ANU say that it’s unethical to stick to the government stipend amount 🤔Any plans to match this at @uwanews? @UWAresearch @ProfChakma @perth_meso_dr @colmer_tim
Very happy to hear that ANU is raising the minimum PhD stipend from $28,854 to $34,000 in Oct - an increase of about $100 a week (scholarships are tax-free). Still not much money but definitely heading in the right direction.

Very happy to be back under moody Scottish skies after being away for so long. Also a nice surprise to see an astronomer has made it onto the currency since I was last home!

Counting Clusters to Probe Ancient Star Formation @astrobites's @AstroK80 reports on @NASAHubble observations of globular clusters in an ultra-diffuse galaxy. What can these observations tell us about this galaxy’s star-formation history? aasnova.org/2022/03/01/count… @princetonideas

Despite the name, some black holes effectively “shine” as they suck up nearby material with such force that they begin to glow. New research by @ICRAR's @_jessthorne @SabineBellstedt reveals a new method for detecting these active black holes. @uwanews bit.ly/3DUJ3Ot

What can angular momentum and stellar mass tell us about galaxy evolution? A new paper from ICRAR-@uwanews' Jennifer Hardwick uses @NAICobservatory data to better understand how our local neighbourhood of galaxies formed. @ARC_ASTRO3D @astroquokka icrar.org/arecibo-fall/

I’ve put together an AGN unification diagram split into radio loud/quiet and low/high EM power. I’ve added rings to show whether a particular combination of radio emission EM power geometry is expected to produce broad or narrow emission lines, or MIR, radio, or X-ray emission.
