Labour was also built by Irish Catholics. Justice for families in Northern Ireland is personal to the Labour family.
The best teams I've served in didn't agree on everything. We did, however, agree on the mission. That's Labour at its best. Plenty of perspectives, but we know who we stand for. Working people. Their kids. The next generation. That's the job 🌹

Keir Starmer has just told British journalists that Andy Burnham should not launch a leadership contest to oust him because the priority should be to win the by-election to be mayor of Greater Manchester, which would be triggered if Burnham becomes an MP later this week. Here is what the PM said: “We've got the by-election tomorrow. First and foremost, I want Andy Burnham to win, and that's why I've encouraged activists and members to go up there during the course of the campaign, and they'll be up there tomorrow helping to get the vote out. “Then what happens is we're immediately tipped into a Manchester mayoral contest by-election, one of the biggest by-elections that we've ever fought, because of the scale of it. And it's really important to my mind that the whole of the Labour Party and Labour movement focuses on that, which is the next most immediate task. “I don't think there should be a challenge [to oust him]. I think history, particularly the last government, shows that that isn't a successful way for a government to behave. “But if there is a challenge, then I intend to fight. I'm not going to walk away from that, and I've been clear and consistent about that."

Utterly clueless and dangerous
No one who believes that Irish families do not deserve justice should be anywhere near Labour leadership. And disgracefully smearing those families is of a part with the arrogance that made the Brits feel they were untouchable.

A country worth defending should look after its people. A country that wants to look after its people must be secure enough to do so. That is the Labour tradition.

💥Today is the day in which Trump compared Netanyahu negatively to Syria's Ahmed A-Shara, né al-Julani. Hard to remember a comparable fall in a sovereign leader's fortunes.
BREAKING: President Trump publicly rebukes Israel over its war against Hezbollah. "Israel's fighting Hezbollah too long and too many people are being killed." Trump said he opposed strikes that destroy apartment buildings filled with civilians and revealed he urged Israel to let Syria take the lead against Hezbollah instead. "If Israel can't do the job without killing everyone else, he'll do the job. Syria will do the job."

EXCLUSIVE from @patrickkmaguire on our podcast The State of It: * Sir Keir Starmer’s relationship with Ed Miliband has broken down to such an extent that the energy secretary has been accused of “ghosting” the prime minister in recent weeks * Senior government sources claimed that Miliband declined to take calls from the prime minister during a tense stand-off over defence spending * No 10 became increasingly concerned last week that Miliband could quit over the imposition of cuts on his department to fund defence spending * The State of It, the political podcast by The Times and The Sunday Times, has been told that Starmer attempted to contact Miliband repeatedly but did not receive a response. He was said to have been “ghosted” * This account was rejected by a source close to Miliband, who said that the pair did eventually speak and denied that Miliband declined to take the prime minister’s calls * Multiple sources said that Starmer and Miliband were barely on speaking terms and that the prime minister was “furious” at what he regarded as the energy secretary’s “betrayal” * @lara_spirit reveals that several cabinet ministers are weighing up whether to resign after the by-election in an attempt to force Starmer’s hand. Allies of Burnham suggested that Miliband was likely to be among them * The prime minister is said to have become increasingly “entrenched” as he prepares to fight any challenge from Burnham. Starmer sees himself as a “servant of the country rather than the party” and allies said he was determined to resist a “coronation” * An ally of Starmer said: ‘“It would be coup territory, it would profoundly undemocratic. We don’t really know what Burnham stands for or what he would do. Winning a by-election is very different to running the country. Win or lose, someone has to flush out his positions. Keir is becoming more entrenched’ youtu.be/NgX7hnbkZ4E?si=Qkep…

A reminder, Tony Blair got rid of the agricultural day wage that most farmers used to get British people to pick your fruit and veg.
🔥 Reform’s plan to tax farms for hiring foreign workers is economic suicide for British agriculture. Thanks to Brexit, farms are already paying thousands per worker in visa and sponsorship costs because British workers largely won’t do the back-breaking, seasonal labour. This new tax would leave farms unable to staff up, drive up food prices, and risk crops rotting in the fields. Another Brexit-era policy that sounds tough but delivers pain for farmers and higher costs for everyone.

Three and a half months ago, the US and Israel joined forces to attack Iran. None of their war aims have since been achieved and now the US has drawn up a generous, vague deal with the Iranians and won’t even share the wording with the Israeli prime minister. Life happens fast.

American sources now suggesting that Iran will be allowed to "manage" the Strait of Hormuz. Eg collect money from ships. If true, that would be an(other) astonishing climb down from the Americans. And infuriating for the rest of the world.

It is simply offensive. A simile is supposed to have a shared quality. There is nothing comparable between ending a tax break and the actions of the Gestapo.
It’s a simile. A widely-used and well-understood rhetorical device. It’s not surprising that the worst Education Secretary of my lifetime doesn’t get that.

Natural England has been trying for some days to shoot down the “killing ponies” story - largely by saying it’s for the landowners - not them - to make decisions. Their blog sidesteps what advice they are giving landowners - and look below at the replies to the rebuttal which implies they still looking for a reduction in ponies
False claims are circulating about Natural England's role on Dartmoor ponies. Dartmoor ponies are part of the cultural and ecological identity of Dartmoor. We have not recommended a cull. Read our blog for our role and position: naturalengland.blog.gov.uk/2…
