Design Thinking as a framework. Clear vision for low cost prototyping and an emphasis on empathy and social problem solving vs technical sophistication void of a vision for purpose.
I agree with everyone that community is more important than furniture and tools, and central to that is the school leadership realising it takes time to develop new programs and giving staff time allowance to do it - a single leader in the space or many/all teachers getting time
Definitely building a community, as @McLemoreAve said, and letting them have a sense of ownership. A willingness to be flexible, and letting the makers lead the way (even with their "mistakes"). This was all key for developing the JHLIL at @FreemanLib.
The space has to be alive with the residue of thought and process. Sketches, prototypes, and the sharing of ideas of those who use the space need to be visible. Storage for ongoing projects is key.
Jamboard frames for "Design a Shoe" are coming along nicely. Please share suggestions for how to incorporate the lesson after students have designed their shoes. What should they do next?
Working late on a new @CodeJoyEdu project. Can you guess the book we're bringing to life with #microbit? Excited to do some #PD for @CobbSchools in Georgia tomorrow morning. 😁
I'm imagining students "finding opportunity" to make by selecting a building in their community and recreating it like this after some "close looking" and "exploring complexity" @AgencybyDesign

Can I admit how much I loved creating this Build & Measure Jamboard? Students build, measure, & even create their own brick-avatars. That’s me on the cover. It’s a hands-on STEAM-style experience! How would you improve it? Interested?
