World central banks are incredibly bullish on gold: 45% of central banks said they plan to buy gold over the next 12 months, the highest reading on record, according to the World Gold Council survey of 74 central banks. This percentage has more than doubled since 2020 and marks the 3rd consecutive annual increase. Emerging market and developing economy central banks led the increase, with a record ~53% of this group planning to add gold, up from 48% last year. Overall, 89% of central banks expect global gold reserves to increase over the next 12 months, the 2nd-highest reading on record. Central banks are buying the gold dip.

Today’s story behind the numbers: Five Atlanta gang members sentenced to federal prison. These criminals are a part of Atlanta-based GoodFellas gang, and all charges were related to gang activity and used violence to further their criminal enterprise. 23-year-old DeAndre Jackson was sentenced to the longest prison term at nearly 16 years for his involvement in a shooting involving a child at an Atlanta apartment building. The shooting targeted a woman the gang deemed as “disloyal” before firing approximately 50 rounds towards the woman and her 6-year-old son as they walked to the mailbox. The woman was shot more than 6 times and the son shot three times. A 14-year-old bystander was also shot in the ear. All three survived. An investigation by @FBIAtlanta and law enforcement partners at the Atlanta Police Department lead to their charge and eventual sentencing.
