DD SPOILER The scene where Margaret extracts Daniel from Scanlon's clutches by turning into everybody's loved ones would be 100x more effective if you removed John Williams' sappy score. Film has absolutely no faith in itself in that moment and tries to oversell the emotion to us

Like 4 or 5 moments are so cripplingly bad and they're sprinkled into what's mostly the best film I've ever seen in my fucking life.

There also needed to be at least one fewer scenes where Margaret grasps somebody by the shoulder and says "your child actually isn't a piece of shit, you should maybe be nice to them" like mix it up a bit!

Disclosure Day has lots of references to his previous alien films obvs but there's also a great LAST CRUSADE quote where fleeing requires you to jump onto a moving train and who knows what you'll find when you drop into the train car?

Can we just please have this one last good thing. I won't ever ask for anything again
GEORGE MILLER is currently pitching “one last” MAD MAX movie to studios Warner Bros. rejected the pitch, but Universal, Sony and Amazon are interested (via @PuckNews) tinyurl.com/4zr752de

yeah but he REALLY hits you over the head with it. Spielberg's worst impulse is that he doesn't ever trust the audience to get it. John Williams constantly selling you the movie you're already watching
It really is wild that people cannot understand that empathy is one of the most fundamental human emotions. Spielberg hits you over the head with this, so if you still can’t see that, you might just be an asshole. #DisclosureDay

Pre-LIMITS OF CONTROL Jarmusch is just banger after banger. There is not a boring moment in all of DOWN BY LAW and MYSTERY TRAIN for example. Like, every single frame is riveting.
guys like linklater and jarmusch make something close to anti-entertainment

What's worse, having your scene get infiltrated by theater kids, or blue check engagement baiters who say 'big heckin wholesome chungi'?
This isn’t even a new phenomenon. Normies who don’t understand the culture at all have been saying since at least the 90s “DAE PUNKS AND METALHEADS ARE BIG HECKIN WHOLESOME CHUNGI?” No, subcultures are full of creepy, maladjusted, anti-social assholes. They’re filled with violence and drug abuse and the much touted “loyalty” is entirely fabricated out of thin air. The hardcore scene, at least, is a gossip mill that would rival a middle school cheerleading squad. Theater kids who colonized subcultures around COVID have no idea, because they show up at festivals and barricade shows, get their passport punched and head off to the next Epic Reddit Gold Adulting Event.

It can be very hard actually, professional music critics fail at this all the time
Replying to @TwiceDeadd
Like how hard is it to pick a few adjectives that describe the band you recommend?

I dream of an end to art as a numerical hierarchical thing. Let it be an experience you have because you want to! But if it’s always you and your “music community” only listening to the same handful of albums it’s no more interesting than top 40 but with a pretentious angle.
