12 years after #BF4's release, it’s hard to overstate my disappointment with what EA and BF Studios delivered with #BF6’s return to the modern era. Failing to learn from past missteps and deliver a cohesive experience, it may be the final straw that kills my love for @Battlefield

A guy was ready to drop $1,500 on a new OLED TV because his 3-year-old Smart TV was freezing up and took 5 seconds just to respond to the remote. He unplugged it. Deleted old apps. Cleared the cache. The lag kept coming back. He went to Best Buy to get a replacement. The home theater installer in the blue shirt stopped him: "Before you spend a grand, let me show you something." He grabbed a remote and shook his head. "There are 8 hidden tracking settings throttling your TV's processor right now. Manufacturers turn them all on by default. Nobody tells you they exist. Let's fix this." Here's what he showed him in the next 8 minutes. 🧵

If I were ever abducted by Aliens, the first thing I’d ask is whether they came from a planet where people also deny science.

Heart of Darkness (Infogrames, 1998), overseen by Éric Chahi, carries a clear "spiritual DNA" from his earlier masterpiece, Another World. If you played both, I think you can see how. While it didn't grip me quite as deeply - perhaps because I'd already moved past my golden age of platformers - what stuck with me were the brutally unforgiving death sequences. For a 1998 release, they felt surprisingly intense and graphic. Given that you play as a young boy, the level of violence in some of those scenes and animations is pretty full on. I'm honestly surprised it didn't draw heavier censorship or stricter "PG-only" ratings in various regions. Sure, by today’s standards it looks relatively mild, but keep in mind the game is now pushing 28 years old. Like its predecessor, Heart of Darkness demands real patience. You'll die often (hello there Another World PTSD), amd learn mostly through relentless trial and error - which is not everyone's cup of tea, I suppose. It's a tough but rewarding old-school experience.

Earlier today, Insider Gaming received emails from several Ubisoft employees that two of its studios were shutting down and hundreds of employees would be affected. Subsequently, after corroborating said information, we ran with those stories. This is normal journalism. It's a normal practice - you get news from sources, you corroborate, you try to get a comment from the company, and you publish. After some of these stories went live, Ubisoft contacted us to say that the information was under an embargo (which IG never received), which, frankly, is weird but understandable, since employees should be told first by their employer. However, before each story went live, the affected teams were informed of the impacts, and that's how we found out; it just wasn't a company-wide announcement yet. Sure, there were probably a few people who were affected and didn't know about the layoffs/changes, but it has NEVER been the media's job to protect a company. Developers find out about layoffs all the time via the media, and I even know of instances of journalists pursuing a story, texting/emailing developers BEFORE their dreaded all-hands meeting to say they would be laid off in a matter of hours. The fact is, it is shit to report on layoffs, but ultimately, it's a part of our job. Am I glad we published articles on layoffs today? Hell no. But I am glad that we did what we were supposed to do. Personally, I think as an industry, we're running into quite dangerous ground when we start abiding by embargoes about layoffs, but even more so when we publish the info like we learned info from sources rather than the company itself... But maybe that's just me.

What happened to using this as a texture place holder in videogames instead of AI? "We forgot to remove the AI assets" thats exact why this pattern is so visually strong

I will never stop banging the drum that AI plagiarizes by default. You can literally never be sure it isn't ripping something else off when you generate an image, asset, or video. This is from Zelda if you didn't know.
Internal test game created by a single (senior) developer in 5 days using our new tools and engine. Uses WASM mini-engine (ECS, rendering, animations and physics). 100% AI generated assets using our new asset pipeline. Custom character controller. Slop or not?

I'm finally reading Dune. This quote, which is in the first few pages, hits hard: "Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them."

Stumbled over the @zen_browser last week and I like it a lot. Especially the "container" feature for tabs & spaces that allows to be logged into the same website with different accounts. It is so much nicer than having 2 different Chrome profiles/browsers open at the same time.

You mean a typical @Battlefield release as this is what happened every single time since BF4. No one else develops software like the gaming industry where features are lost when going from one version to the next. Its just insane and gamers are not upset about it enough.
My largest worry for the franchise is we're going to see another Battlefield next year and it's going to not have 60% of the shit added and fixed in the current one.

It’s weird to think there’s hardly been a week in nearly 4 years where I haven’t played WARDOGS.. kinda crazy One of the best decisions we made (and had to fight publishers on!) was playing @WARDOGS every week, regardless of stability… and let me tell you, some weeks it was awful and depressing. But that made people rally to fix issues, kept us focused on the thing we were making AS PLAYERS, you can’t ignore it if you’re made to look at it… One month in 2024 we were so fed up with our performance we made our whole environment art team play the game on really low end hardware every week.. they hated it. But now.. it’s absolutely worth it.

Only people who know how to drive will back into parking spaces. We understand that it’s safer, easier, faster to exit, and the best part? It annoys the people who don’t know how to drive. Next week we’ll talk about the zipper merge.
Why do people reverse into parking spaces? At first it was one or two misdirected fools, now it's spreading like a disease. It makes no sense. You are only making it so much harder for yourself, and everyone hates you as you block the road trying to get into the space.

I’m gonna simply say this: if you are at all interested in a Stargate show with ANY of the original creators/performers involved, now is the time to say something. Otherwise it really will be the end of that chapter forever. Let them know you are THERE
Hey Stargate Fans please let @amazon and @AmazonMGMStudio know how you feel about them cancelling #Stargate They MOCK us. They think they don't need us. Let them know what you think of that. I won't be watching ANY other Stargate that is created without the OG creators /Gero being involved. I'm DONE with studios SHITTING ON THE FANS AND KILLING IPS WE LOVE. #stargate #stargatecanceled #amazon #amazonstudios #amazonmgmstudio

EXCLUSIVE: The new "Stargate" TV series has been axed at Amazon. The show was first announced with a series order in November 2025 and hailed from showrunner Martin Gero, who was a writer on "Stargate SG-1" and "Stargate: Atlantis." Sources say Amazon execs were concerned that Gero's take on the series would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise's already dedicated fanbase. wp.me/pc8uak-1lHl5z

I'm currently replaying Origins and Legends as part of my #LinuxGaming experiment and while the ports have issues that @Ubisoft should fix, they still look BREATHTAKING! Legends:Retold graphics do not have the same charm. But it has some cool new elements, looking forward to it!
Stories fade. Legends are retold. Rayman Legends Retold launches October 1, 2026. Pre-order now!

Happy 35th birthday! Moonstone: A Hard Days Knight was released on June 2, 1991 and became a cult game pretty soon after. The core idea was centered around Dungeons & Dragons combined with the board games Talisman and Dark Tower, while the combat scenes were inspired by Barbarian. Not a bad mix if you ask me. One of those games that was banned in Germany (we loved doing stuff like that...), and an extremely rare collectible these days. If you happen to own an original and complete box version, DM me. Seriously. An excellent opportunity for a modern remake. The game idea and concept is solid and the multiplayer mode was a crapload of fun. If any indi dev sees this, please by all means, do it.

Both Rayman Origins and Legends still look phenomenal today, especially when played on the big screen in 4k. But the PC version of that port would need some love as it does not run well (as seen in steam comments/reviews). Curious what the remake will look like.
I know there are a lot of folks wondering why Ubisoft remade Rayman Legends because it still holds up, but I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised tomorrow. It looks really impressive.
