After talking with @Princey21M in Prague, I realized Bitcoin Core v30’s OP_RETURN policy change isn’t obvious to many: it didn’t create large OP_RETURN usage, it reacted to usage that already existed by removing a gate that wasn’t actually working.

We have become aware of a privacy bug in the -privatebroadcast feature, newly introduced in Bitcoin Core 31.0, that may cause the originator’s IP address to be revealed to the receiving peer under certain network conditions. A fix is forthcoming and will be released with 31.1.

I wrote down my thoughts on the risks of Cryptographically Relevant Quantum Computers for Bitcoin. TL;DR: i think the goal of any migration should be to preserve Bitcoin's core properties. Otherwise we might as well just start a non-EC based altcoin from scratch. This necessarily requires the vast majority of Bitcoin users, including and especially those users that are not active Bitcoin enthusiasts. Of the options currently on the table i believe @TheBlueMatt's "P2TRV2" proposal offers the best risk mitigation. (Though it really needs a better name.)

I built a very small language model on plebslop. How small? Small enough to fit in a single *standard* bitcoin transaction. There is now a plebslop generator on every Bitcoin node. The UI includes client-side inference code. It loads the weights and does it all in-browser

We just published an open challenge Come break some stuff 🔓
Today we announce: AADP WE Open Challenges. Recently we proposed a new witness encryption scheme based on Arithmetic Affine Determinant Programs which we intend to use in Bitcoin PIPEs v2, unlocking a wide range of applications and eliminating the need for trusted parties. Now we invite anyone to break small instances of our new scheme or to discover structural properties that were unknown before. Details here: allocinit.notion.site/challe… Special thanks to @zeroknowledgefm @zkproof @IACReurocrypt for organizing the conference week in Rome that we're announcing these at in person.

We've been publishing Bitcoin Core security advisories for ~2 years now, and (afaik) we just disclosed the first ever memory safety issue: A use-after-free in the validation engine. Credit to Cory Fields from the DCI for finding and reporting.
