All the indie devs doom posting about their titles flopping- I’m keenly AWARE mine will so even though it’s costed me $1000’s in art and dev costs I’m only making it cost $1.99
I just want it to be as approachable to gamers who wants it- hell go ahead and pirate it 🤷
So my game flopped after 3 years of work...😢
Since its release on May 26th, I've sold 77 copies... Streamers and curious gamers loved it.
I have 2800 wishlists, 800 of which are from the release date....

People who do this have no idea how much it TOTALLY screws over indie games
Especially on sites like itch, reviews and review consistency is EVERYTHING for the algorithm so getting low or even 4 stars is gutting

Steam crushing Visual Novels into obscurity yet again. It’s a small genre already, and now this

Steam just made a change that's really gonna hurt future indie games.
The Popular Upcoming page used to list games chronologically by release time. As long as you had enough wishlists to make the cut (~6k to 7k), you'd get some time at the top of the list for people to discover your game.
Now it's listed algorithmically, with far more large games from major companies and publishers on the list, even those releasing two weeks away. The lowest wishlist count on there right now is 80k, when before it would've been 10 indie games as low as 6k wishlists.
Feeling very lucky our game's early access release barely made it out before this changed. It was worth probably 1k wishlists for us, and we had some really unfortunate timing/positioning too. It can be worth thousands of wishlists and sales for smaller games.
Steam is more heavily prioritizing larger games, with the budget and time to grow to enormous wishlist totals, or the rare indie viral hit.
The small to mid-sized games just lost a way to find players. Steam players lost a tool to discover cool smaller games.

Fire Emblem Three Houses:
- Is it a good game: Yes ✅
- Is it true to the 'soul' of Fire Emblem? Not at all ❌
No weapon triangle, promotions function nothing like the OG series, weapon ranks are based on mentoring (mostly), and on and on.

Does Steam just specifically hate Visual Novels? I swear to god it legit took like 8 support tickets for my VN to do the same thing it took 1 ticket for a shooter title I work on

This is why Fire Emblem Genealogy did it better than Three Houses. Everyone with a “Crest” was unbelievably broken in gameplay- perfectly displaying not only how strong their “crests” were but how strong their “crest weapons” are as well

I can’t prove it but I think crests being as underwhelming as they are in gameplay is deliberate because it subtly shows in practice the pointlessness and stupidity of Fodlan society’s heavy emphasis on them
