I am thrilled that the House & Senate passed S. 1541, the Senate version of my bill to ban charging families exorbitant costs to call incarcerated loved ones. This is inhumane & immoral, which is why I have been working with advocates for years to stop it.

The bill is named after #MarthaWrightReed, a woman who became an activist on the issue after she was forced to choose between paying for her medication & talking to her incarcerated grandson over the phone, due to the exorbitant prison phone charges.

As a former railroad worker myself, I am deeply concerned for railroad employees. That’s why I voted for both of @SpeakerPelosi’s bills that would keep the country’s rail lines running & grant workers the personal time off they deserve.
