We’re fighting on whether Doug Ford works hard versus whether he spends too few days making new laws? It’s the new deal on majority governments, Ontario. These guys run their legislative agenda, cut every opening for opposition or conversation, then go to the lake. Fight on that.
I don’t recall the Star particularly supportive of the marathon sittings in our first term. All summer, the entire fall, over Christmas. During the pandemic - daily cabinet meetings some as long as 10 hours. You simply cannot question Doug Ford’s horsepower and penchant for work.

It’s wrong when Doug Ford does it. It’s wrong if Mark Carney does it. This new consensus that the public doesn’t get to know how our leaders communicate anymore is wrong. It’s wrong and it has to be stopped. canada.ca/en/treasury-board-…
NEW: The Carney government is considering changes to the Access to Information Act, which governs access to government records. One proposal would limit requests to “official records” stored in official repositories, while excluding “transitory records.” canada.ca/en/treasury-board-…

Journalists need to stop calling these "breaks" -- this is subverting democracy because, ultimately, the premier has too much unchecked power.
NEW: Progressive Conservative House Leader Steve Clark says the Ontario legislature will break for summer today until Oct.27 - returning the day after municipal elections. Says members will be very busy over the summer and defends the extended break #onpoli

Remember when various municipal politicians endorsed the PCs in the 2025 ON snap election, against municipal norms? This legislative break would conveniently allow PC MPPs & staffers time to return support during municipal campaigning...
#BREAKING - MPP’s are leaving on what will be an almost 5 month break. The Ford government says the legislature won’t return until October 28th, a 148 day summer break. MPP’s though will continue to work in their constituencies and in committees.

The Ontario legislature is expected to rise today after seven weeks. MPPs have spent just 29 days introducing, debating and passing legislation. Queen’s Park is now widely expected to take an extended summer break - with 5 planned sitting weeks to be erased. #onpoli

I had the privilege of working briefly with Natan Obed when I was Premier. He is one of the most insightful political leaders in the country. His take on the fine contribution of Mary Simon is an important one. thestar.com/opinion/contribu…

Focusing on process is the thing @avilewis is doing right. The Left wins when people believe due process produces winning outcomes. His challenge is how processes are outdated and civil society is crushed. The state cannot force the legitimacy of process, it can only facilitate.
Avi Lewis: "Canada is now living a new chapter of the shock doctrine story. It's also known as the political strategy of flooding the zone. The Carney government right now is pursuing an agenda of shocking scale and speed."

In all the years I've reported on the fragile relationship between the Thunder Bay Police Service and First Nations leaders in northern Ontario, I've never once seen a police chief call out those leaders by name. This statement is in response to this: ricochet.media/indigenous/fi…

I'll never forget what this album did for me. When the song came out in February, I was wrestling with whether or not to come out & was attending a Catholic school that was unsafe. When the album came out, I told my mum & was able to switch schools. It gave me hope & confidence

New from @KateDeClerq: The most important graph you'll see on OSAP grant spending. Despite the spending increase being almost entirely driven by students at private career colleges, the Ford government is cutting OSAP for everyone. #onpoli thetrillium.ca/news/educatio…

NEW: @KateDeClerq got data on OSAP funding for students of universities, public colleges and private colleges. The charts tell the story: it's only private colleges that were "unsustainable," but the changes are coming for students at publicly funded schools, too.

The DNC finally released the full 192 page 2024 election autopsy today. I haven't read the whole thing, but I did read "What Happened" and it's very clear why the DNC did not release it. It's not Gaza/Palestine - that is not mentioned once in any capacity. It's just a horrible document. The most incompetent thing I've seen in a very long time. It provides essentially no information of any value. I'll give some examples in the thread.
