Update- we won with 66% of the vote. As the Democratic nominee for the strongest Democratic seat in the Georgia State House, we are set to make history this November. I’ll become the first Japanese-American elected in Georgia and the first nonbinary or trans person to serve in a State Legislature in the Deep South. Despite the millions of dollars spent attacking transgender people and our families in Georgia and across the country — we made history last night and we aren’t going anywhere.
Last night, District 90 spoke clearly and decisively. We spoke up for universal access to healthcare, for ending gun violence in our communities, for strong public schools, strong unions, getting rid of ICE, stopping data centers and ensuring equal opportunities for all. Most importantly, we spoke up for our sacred right to vote in a free and fair democracy - a Georgia for all of us.
Thank you, neighbors. I hear you loud and clear. This is just the beginning. Right now, we rest, gather our energy and prepare for the fight ahead to vote for our friends in the runoff elections, to stand up against voter suppression in the special session this June and work to turn out every vote for the general election this November.
Thank you to every single person who made this possible. Onwards! ☀️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
