The work GP practices do (and how they do it) matters hugely to #productivity in the NHS.
Last week @Cambridge_Uni brought new evidence to light on how seeing the same doctor over time matters (continuity).
But that is only half the story…

Nice piece of analysis and commentary from Rachel Hutchings @NuffieldTrust on #Carers working & employed within the NHS - getting this right by supporting working carers has impt implications for retention of highly trained staff. nuffieldtrust.org.uk/resourc…
Agree with the need for evidence to drive policy - always important - but particularly in AI space. @sib313 eloquently making this point.

With a five-year mandate, there is a real opportunity for the new government to bring forward long-awaited reforms for social care & deliver on its promises.

Thoughtful reflections from @ashjamesphysio & @HSJnews on first contact physios in primary care.
We need more GPs. We need more FCPs.
No one gains – least of all, patients – if it becomes a conversation pitching roles against each other.

V grateful for excellent training today from @NHSProviders (board development) it's been fantastic. Glad to get a quick break and refresh my head in @RoyalPapworth gardens (& have a chat w Jake and Holly from respiratory outpatients!)
Brilliant conversation on @BBCRadio4 on experience of #carers and value of unpaid caring. Highlighting experience of carers who step out of paid employment to provide care, & challenge of returning to employment.
Summary of the evidence on changing workforce to deliver nursing care.
TLDR: nurses do it better. Replacing nurses with people who are less well trained kills patients.
Time to abandon workforce substitution across the NHS!
Well that’s a wrap #SAPC2024! Huge thanks to @rjohnsonridd and everyone in the organising committee for a hugely successful conference full of stimulating conversations - lots of evidence to give food for policy thought!
Anticipatory meds are really useful tool in end of life care, providing effective symptom control. Hugely impt for people who are dying, & their families.
But this is not a good sticking plaster for inadequate & over stretched community services - we must caution against that.

Next @Ben_Bowers__ explores community nurses’ views & experiences of their new or extended roles in palliative care.
Larger case loads & more complex work.
Opportunities but risk of moral distress
Fragmented relationships w/ GPs left them feeling unsupported
