Keaton Wagler's going to be such an interesting case study to follow as an offensive player. Zero dunks has been the headline, but for a lead guard, he laps his peers in FTr and OREB%. Could find himself in a weird middle-ground where he's not enough of a playmaker to be a lead guard, but a bad defender on the wing. But has so much impact as a shot-maker and possession-maximizer on offense that it doesn't really matter, and you just have to put him out there. Don't think it all depends on the shooting being elite, but still think the shooting could be elite. Would certainly help. Lottery guy, as I see it, but 100% tentative on that. Can't think conventionally about unconventional guys.

Messing around on @CBBAnalytics because Nebrasketball was on my mind and came across this fascinating chart. Last season, Fred Hoiberg mentioned about once a week how Nebraska's offense was better when it wasn't "taking the ball out of the net" and, uh, yeah. True.

Thornton was the only player in the country to shoot 65% in the paint, 40% in the midrange, and 40% on three-pointers this season.
bruce thornton measured 6'0" barefooted at the combine and managed to create 9.9 paint touches per game this past season for OSU at 1.335 points-per-chance that volume at that efficency for a player that size is wild (stat per @SynergySST, chart per @CBBAnalytics)

Kentucky got a good one. Milan Momcilovic was 1 of 2 players in the country to shoot 50% from the field, 45% on three-pointers, and 85% on free throws this season. Gosh, his shot chart is pretty 😍

Bennett Stirtz played 5,118 minutes over the last 4 seasons. It's the most minutes for any college player in a 4-year span across all NCAA divisions since Washington's Kelsey Plum from 2013-17. #IronMan

Tounde Yessoufou will be an impact player for Rick Pitino and St. John's. He averaged 17.8 PPG, 5.9 RPG, and 2.0 SPG this season at Baylor. The only other freshmen to reach these marks in the last 20 years are LSU's Ben Simmons & Duke's Zion Williamson.

The original reference for stats and lampposts was this from Andrew Lang: "Most people use statistics like a drunk man uses a lamppost; more for support than illumination." I try to use stats for illumination. It actually bugs me when people look to stats only for support.

No matter the tempo, these offenses had answers. Only 7 teams finished in the top-25 in the country in both halfcourt and transition offensive efficiency. Different styles. Same problem for defenses.
