An absolutely fine deal so long as we get the succession correct and that's where I lose faith - looks an awkward fit within Alonso's system and probably not worth the bumper contract so the fee offers more value at this point in time.

Alonso making a stand like this is promising with regards to priorities but also sends a very strong, positive message to Cobham

The 19-year-old attacker was expected to follow the standard Chelsea academy-to-loan pipeline. Alonso ended that conversation before it could begin. He watched George’s cup appearances from this season and told Cobham staff the winger has “an unusual understanding of space for his age.”

I think any replacement of Enzo conversation is that you’re replacing PART of his game and the shape of the team is different. Ex replacement him with a true sitting 6, and you ask Andrey to do his box crashing, Moi to do progression, and the defensive boost makes up the rest

Tchouameni seemed to like Xabi but still feels unlikely he'd come and obviously he's great but wouldn't replace all the goals and assists that Enzo gives us

I like Enzo but I still stand firm in the belief that if you get your money back on him then it's a good deal for us
Reinvest that value into a more balanced midfield and look to get his G/A elsewhere
Would rather he stays but there's definitely positives at the right price

It's undeniable that especially in the PL, he's a bit of a square peg in a round hole at times.
We've enough quality in the squad to replace him at 10 (Palmer, Estevao, JP..) and a more physical (preferably much taller) 6 gives the overall squad balance.

Reflections on last night and the academy season. Chelsea are U18 National champions and that team is special. The age group has won trophies pretty much every single year coming up from the U12s with England internationals scattered all over the pitch.

The likes of Hall, Colwill, Wharton & Palmer allow you alternative options even if you don't ultimately need to use them.
I'm not sure what the likes of Quansah, Burn, Henderson really offer you in the terrifying position you need to play them.

It's arguably better for the club to be in no European football than the Conference League but I can't lie, I do enjoy the prospect of it being a proving ground for some of the younger players to get meaningful minutes
Just don't bloat the squad with filler like we did before

Like there's a world you can get 10 games for the likes of Josh, Shim, RKM, Derry, Antwi & co under the assumption they're not sent on loan with a view of them maybe establishing themselves.
Also a more risk free environment to test Gittens, Emegha & others, there's positives

I'd not really factor it into any transfer activity, use it as a platform for what you already have any might not be able to test week in week out in the PL.
You'll quickly discover you generate more value from within in every sense.

- Delap (likely a lock out)
- Jackson (toughest call)

Delap doesn't look up to it nor worth pursuing.
