An absolutely fine deal so long as we get the succession correct and that's where I lose faith - looks an awkward fit within Alonso's system and probably not worth the bumper contract so the fee offers more value at this point in time. Successful signing all things considered
🚨💣 EXCLUSIVE: Real Madrid reach verbal agreement to sign Marc Cucurella from Chelsea, HERE WE GO! Verbal agreement in place between all parties, player too — he’s the left back wanted by Mourinho. Details to follow. Cucurella leaves #CFC and joins Madrid after World Cup. ⚪️🇪🇸

They running back what they tried to do with Colwill by having this is a pre-requisite to any Van Hecke deal? smart tbf
🚨 EXCL: Brighton & Hove Albion make £30m offer to sign Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur. 19yo #THFC talent among Europe’s most coveted players but Croatia defender favours #BHAFC as best step for development mutual trust with Hurzeler @TheAthleticFC nytimes.com/athletic/7347335…

Hope I'm wrong but I've never quite seen it with George the way I have with similar profiles of players that have come out of Cobham before him Alonso making a stand like this is promising with regards to priorities but also sends a very strong, positive message to Cobham
🚨🔵 EXCL | Tyrique George has been told he will not be going out on loan this summer, and the decision came directly from Alonso. The 19-year-old attacker was expected to follow the standard Chelsea academy-to-loan pipeline. Alonso ended that conversation before it could begin. He watched George’s cup appearances from this season and told Cobham staff the winger has “an unusual understanding of space for his age.” George will be in first-team training from day one of preseason. He won’t start Premier League matches immediately. But Alonso wants him in the environment, absorbing the system. Another Leverkusen principle applied at Chelsea, develop from within, in-house, under direct supervision. George’s representatives are quietly thrilled. #CFC

I think any replacement of Enzo conversation is that you’re replacing PART of his game and the shape of the team is different. Ex replacement him with a true sitting 6, and you ask Andrey to do his box crashing, Moi to do progression, and the defensive boost makes up the rest
Replying to @Statford_Bridge
@Statford_Bridge How would you realistically replace Enzo if Madrid do somehow find the £120m needed to get him? Tchouameni seemed to like Xabi but still feels unlikely he'd come and obviously he's great but wouldn't replace all the goals and assists that Enzo gives us

I like Enzo but I still stand firm in the belief that if you get your money back on him then it's a good deal for us Reinvest that value into a more balanced midfield and look to get his G/A elsewhere Would rather he stays but there's definitely positives at the right price
🚨 BREAKING: Chelsea value Enzo Fernandez at £120m. Preference to keep, but no breakthrough in contract talks. ⚠️ Understand Fernandez wants to leave and would welcome a Real bid. Nothing advancing with #MCFC despite Enzo Maresca's appointment.

It's undeniable that especially in the PL, he's a bit of a square peg in a round hole at times. We've enough quality in the squad to replace him at 10 (Palmer, Estevao, JP..) and a more physical (preferably much taller) 6 gives the overall squad balance.

Of course all of the potential positives sit massively on trusting this lot to spend the money correctly and identify an appropriate replacement and that's where a lot of my optimism falls down

Reflections on last night and the academy season. Chelsea are U18 National champions and that team is special. The age group has won trophies pretty much every single year coming up from the U12s with England internationals scattered all over the pitch.

Is Romero injured? because whilst I know he's not happy at Spurs, your club captain abandoning you on the eve of one of the biggest games in your recent history when you'll need him the most feels unprecedented

Some utterly bizarre selections, but there's a very, very strong first XI and a self imposed lack of depth which may cost us - biggest concern is the lack of match winners from the bench.
This is the England squad BBC Sport expects to be named 📋 The final place in the 26-man squad is expected to go to Myles Lewis-Skelly, Trent Alexander-Arnold or James Garner.

The likes of Hall, Colwill, Wharton & Palmer allow you alternative options even if you don't ultimately need to use them. I'm not sure what the likes of Quansah, Burn, Henderson really offer you in the terrifying position you need to play them.

Fairly or unfairly I do think this is a great point that's worth consideration if you want to compete at the top For top players to truly believe in you, you need respect in the game either through your playing or managerial career Top players aren't buying potential in a coach
🧐 @Matt_Law_DT: If I'm Enzo Fernandez, who's won the World Cup with Argentina, if someone like Rosenior or his coaching staff is telling me where to run to, where to stand, where to pass, I am thinking... I'm sorry, you played for Hull City, your staff's played for Scunthorpe. Like, who are you guys? If Xabi Alonso is telling you actually should be 5 yards this way, or don't make that run, you're listening. This is a guy who's won the World Cup. He's won the European Championships. He was one of the best midfielders of his generation. He's played with all the top players, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich. You're listening. Believe me, you're listening.

It's arguably better for the club to be in no European football than the Conference League but I can't lie, I do enjoy the prospect of it being a proving ground for some of the younger players to get meaningful minutes Just don't bloat the squad with filler like we did before

Like there's a world you can get 10 games for the likes of Josh, Shim, RKM, Derry, Antwi & co under the assumption they're not sent on loan with a view of them maybe establishing themselves. Also a more risk free environment to test Gittens, Emegha & others, there's positives

I'd not really factor it into any transfer activity, use it as a platform for what you already have any might not be able to test week in week out in the PL. You'll quickly discover you generate more value from within in every sense.

One thing I will say, for the relentless 'who would ever want to manage Chelsea???' narrative - the level of interest Maresca got for doing a fairly decent job should probably answer that.
Chelsea will receive compensation due to Enzo Maresca’s #MCFC move. He can start regardless of when agreed. Italian personally endorsed by Pep. Spurs, Real, Juventus and Milan all callled Jorge Mendes but nothing developed. Maresca only wanted City.🇮🇹 talksport.com/football/42697…

Interesting decisions to be made at striker with Xabi coming in. If we are genuinely looking to sign another you've some key decisions to make around 3 of the following: - Pedro (likely a lock in) - Delap (likely a lock out) - Jackson (toughest call) - Emegha (... just why?)

With the exception of JP, they all sit in awkward places. Jackson will likely want to be first choice which will be at odds with a new signing JP Delap doesn't look up to it nor worth pursuing. Emegha just feels like a self created problem, especially if you cant offer mins

Then there's Shim, who I'd absolutely give a loan to because fuck knows where you find his minutes and he should really be playing asap
