The Darzi Review provides a stark assessment of the NHS in England. It found that the NHS is in critical condition, with widespread issues impacting patient care. The UK Government commissioned this review to inform a 10-year health plan to be published next year. 🧵1/10

This confirms what we have been sounding the alarm on for years: cancer care is broken. But better is possible and the UK government must now use this to kickstart a revolution in cancer care. The 10-Year Health Plan is a critical moment to set out radical change.
"I've worked in the NHS for more than 30 years, but I've been shocked by what I've found during this investigation." Professor Lord Darzi's diagnosis of our NHS 👇 gov.uk/government/news/pm-ma…

This is wonderful news. We know how hard a cancer journey can be, it’s important we celebrate these moments when we can. We’re here to support everyone through cancer. If you need to talk, call our Support Line, open every day from 8am – 8pm on 0808 808 00 00. 💚
A message from Catherine, The Princess of Wales As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment. The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown. The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you. With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything. This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved. Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes. I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can. Despite all that has gone before I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life. William and I are so grateful for the support we have received and have drawn great strength from all those who are helping us at this time. Everyone’s kindness, empathy and compassion has been truly humbling. To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey – I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright. 🎬 by Will Warr

We were able to support 2.3 million people affected by cancer last year. That’s 250,000 more people than in 2022. To all of our supporters, thank you so much! 💚
Really happy to be sharing our 2023 Annual Report. So much incredible work has gone into this past year. We’re only able to do what we do thanks to our supporters, fantastic colleagues and partners and our volunteers, so a huge thank you from me.

Congratulations to our new Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer. The new government has an opportunity to fix our broken cancer care system and transform people's experience of living with cancer. Time is ticking: we need to see concrete action that brings waiting lists down, and work starting to deliver a funded, long-term, cross-government strategy that reimagines how we treat people with cancer. At @macmillancancer, we’re ready to work with the new government to ensure everyone living with cancer in the UK receives the best care in the world.

We’d love to welcome more young people into Scouts but we need more adult volunteers to create new places. Our waiting lists for young people to join are at record high, at over 107,000 nationally. @CJLedger, Deputy UK Chief Volunteer, explains: scouts.org.uk/news/2024/july…

It's clear that cancer care is at breaking point. The next UK government must prioritise a funded, long-term cross-government strategy that revolutionises cancer care and ensures everyone with cancer has access to the care they need, every step of the way.
