Independent Jewish Voices supports Projet Montreal's historic motion to condemn Israeli genocide. This motion would be a landmark for cities across the country taking the demands of their residents seriously - to end complicity in Israeli genocide and war crimes. Canadians have been organizing for years now demanding that our politicians take action. We encourage city council members to vote in favor of this resolution, and hope it is a first step in cutting ties with Israel's apartheid regime.

No, the statement from UNRWA explicitly states that "the dismissal of the staff is not part of a disciplinary process and does not constitute in any way a validation of the claims made against them." CIJA is deliberately misrepresenting this story in order to demonize and defund the most important humanitarian organization in Gaza, as Israel deliberately starves the Palestinian people and deprives them of the means of survival. Canada is right to support UNRWA and other humanitarian orgs in the face of the grotesque, genocidal attacks against them.

BREAKING: Termination of UNRWA Gaza employees raises serious questions about Canada's continued support for the agency. The participation of UNRWA employees in the deadliest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust has been extensively documented. Despite UNRWA's refusal to fully acknowledge this reality, the decision to terminate 70 of its staff members in Gaza speaks for itself and should be a wake-up call for the Government of Canada: Canadian taxpayer dollars should never fund organizations linked to terror, incitement, or antisemitism. Public funds should only be provided to organizations that uphold Canadian values and international human rights standards. UNRWA fails that test. That is why, in 2024, Canadian families of October 7 victims and CIJA launched a legal challenge to the federal government's decision to restore funding to UNRWA. We will continue to hold the government accountable.

Israel is establishing its first permanent military base in Area A near Jenin refugee camp since the Oslo Accords, after stealing Palestinian land near the camp for its construction. The move, which is prohibited for the Israeli army according to the Oslo Accords, comes as more than 33,000 displaced Palestinians remain barred from returning to northern West Bank refugee camps.

The EU is quietly approaching a decision it spent two years avoiding: trade measures on Israeli settlement goods. Most coverage misses why this moment is different. It isn't new outrage. It's a legal opinion that just removed the EU's favourite excuse. A thread. 🧵 ↳ EU pressure to ban settlement trade — The National: thenationalnews.com/news/202…

ACTION ALERT - @tdsb cancelled their workshop on Anti-Palestinian Racism. From Toronto Palestinian Families: "Tell the TDSB: Reinstate Permit for APR Educational Session The TDSB has cancelled a scheduled educational session on anti-Palestinian racism just one day before it was set to take place, citing concerns about “divisiveness” and “school climate.” This decision follows a troubling pattern of erasure and undermines the Board’s stated commitments to equity and inclusion. We are calling on the TDSB to immediately reinstate the permit, issue a public apology, and take meaningful action to address anti-Palestinian racism in its schools. Join us in demanding accountability and affirming the right of all students to recognition, dignity, and safe learning spaces." Link: actionnetwork.org/letters/re…

Israeli authorities have deliberately accelerated formal annexation of the occupied West Bank through a state-driven ethnic cleansing campaign targeting Palestinian Bedouin and herding communities in Area C of the West Bank, while committing the crime against humanity of forcible transfer. Our new report is out now. It shows that: ➡️Palestinians Bedouins and herding communities have been erased from their ancestral land, cut off from their pastures, and terrorized into fleeing their homes amid this ➡️What is happening is not an historical or political aberration ➡️The ethnic cleansing campaign is NOT new. It is rooted in Israel’s longstanding system of apartheid, a crime against humanity perpetrated by Israel against all Palestinians under its control for years. Decades. ➡️The campaign is NOT driven by some rogue settlers. The international community is guilty of mischaracterizing the annexation as “settlers’ violence” driven by some bad apples or “extremist” ministers. ➡️Ethnic cleansing in the West Bank is state-sanctioned, state-implemented and state-enforced. ➡️What the the 37th Israel government – a coalition between the Likud, the Jewish Power and Religious Zionism parties - has done is to accelerate a campaign of ethnic cleansing and longstanding oppressive practices, making them more aggressive, and more destructive. ➡️Israel’s turbo-charged campaign of ethnic cleansing must be met with an equal surge of measures by states around the world. ➡️We are calling on states to ban all trade, investment relations and activities that contribute to, or are directly linked to Israel’s unlawful occupation, system of apartheid and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. ➡️This must include banning the provision of funds or any other assistance to organizations that are integral to the settlement enterprise and apartheid system. ➡️The EU in particular must leverage its influence by expediting the long overdue suspension of its association agreement with Israel and suspending visa-free access to all Israeli settlers living in the OPT. ➡️We are also calling on states to impose unilateral, targeted sanctions, against senior Israeli officials directly implicated in Israel’s ethnic cleansing campaign, including Benjamin Netanyahu, Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel Katz, Bezalel Smotrich, and Orit Strock. amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2…

We stopped hearing about hostage crisis in Israel & Palestine because 100% of the remaining hostages are Palestinian .... being tortured, raped & starved to death.
🔴 The son of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza held in Israeli detention since December 2024, warned Monday that his father’s life is in danger after being transferred to solitary confinement in Nafha Prison — a move the family says came in direct retaliation for filing a legal appeal with the Israeli Supreme Court. The family says Abu Safiya is being held in a two-meter cell with no food, water, medicine, or access to his lawyer. “How can a person be punished for asking why he is being detained?” his son asked in an urgent public appeal. “Every hour that passes without action may bring more suffering and pain.”

Bravo to La Caisse for dramatically reducing investments in Israel by 44% in response to the genocide in Gaza. We welcome Canada’s announcement of new sanctions targeting extremist Israeli settlers and organizations in the occupied West Bank, which was coordinated with European partners. For the last 8 months, CJPME, alongside our partners, have been advocating for Canada to expand its sanctions regime against Israel, including Libi Construction and Infrastructure Ltd. While we are glad Canada is taking some concrete steps, Canada can and must do more to stop settlement expansion. Canada must capitalize on this global momentum and impose stronger sanctions on the settlements as a whole, as well as entities that financially encourage and support violations of Palestine’s territorial integrity.
Canada continues to oppose the expansion of settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Today, together with Australia, France, Norway and the U.K., we announced coordinated sanctions targeting those supporting extremist settler violence against Palestinian civilians. As we impose this fifth round of sanctions, we remain committed to a comprehensive, just and lasting peace where Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace and security. canada.ca/en/global-affairs/…
