I’m begging you, in the year 2024 Please stop infantilizing, disabled people and stop sharing inspiration porn, and treating disabled kids and adults like lessons for your life not being as bad as you. “think it is“

Where has empathy gone & why being chronically ill is painful & exhausting in Covid times 🧵. For everyone screaming that Covid is mild and we should stop living in fear and go back to “normal”… some of us don’t have that choice. Some of us didn’t have your version of /1

One of the ways ableism and fatphobia intersect is the belief that all chronic illness will somehow be alleviated by weight loss smh.
being pressured to lose weight for my hips (which will do nothing the actual bone is the problem) and having my meal portions get smaller and smaller and when I ask for desert items grocery shopping they won’t buy them.

Unpopular opinion: traditional therapy is woefully ill-equipped to actually address the needs of disabled people. I remember a psychologist saying that my anxiety was my mind making up people staring at me and I had to tell her not only were they staring they come up to ask

A mask 🧵 for the Covid conscious. At a hospital clinic (in a facility that still requires masking) and nurse only wearing baggy blue under her nose. I asked politely and repeatedly for her to pull it up and explained I was immune compromised. Her reply? /1

I will leave you with this: never trust a disabled person obsessed with not being considered disabled who waxes poetic about overcoming their disability. They are not interested in liberation but in denial and assimilation. There is nothing wrong with being disabled. PERIODT.

This is disappointing 1. that we still have to explain to people what a service dog is… it’s not a pet & it’s not an emotional support dog. The same rules don’t apply. 2. For a creator I’ve followed for years to mention ableism for the first time I’ve seen & choose not to use…

… their platform to educate and fight ableism, but instead to shame a disabled person for responding distastefully to an experience this creator has never had to navigate.

The manipulation of public opinion on covid has been intense & successful. Most ppl I know believe 3-6 of these. They're all lies 🧵 1. Lockdowns weakened immune systems 2. Like a cold/flu 3. Kids don't spread it 4. It's seasonal 5. Masks don't work 6. No one dies of covid now

Has anyone else noticed that health insurance is covering less and less as we pay more and more for it? Cause why am I paying my $65 copay and simultaneously getting an additional $30 bill for the same visit?

Dear .@ChoiceHotels, Please stop claiming your hotels are accessible to disabled people when they’re not. I’m a wheelchair user and I booked a non-refundable stay at Comfort Inn—Downtown/DC Convention Center. This is the ableism I encountered at the entrance.
