Wind now generates roughly as much electricity as nuclear globally, but its growth rate is vastly higher. Over the last decade, wind added around 870 GW of capacity versus roughly 40 GW for nuclear. Better economics, faster deployment and manufacturing scale are winning the day.

It is just a matter of time before we eliminate fossil fuels and nuclear and biomass from electricity systems. People denied more than 20% renewables on a grid was possible 15 years ago. They complained the sun doesn't shine at night. Batteries, hydro, geo, and wind proved it doesn't matter.
Another day, another record: 23.148 GW peak of solar on the @CaliforniaISO grid Mon Jun 15. WindWaterSolar has met>100% of demand on 141 of 166 (85%) days in 2026 for an avg of 5.1 h/day among all days. Gas is down 61%; batteries up 337%; solar up 56%; wind up 13% in '26 vs '23. In-state WWS has met 57.4% of all demand in 2026

California has the cheapest wholesale electricity prices in the country, and clean energy is the reason why Free fuel (sun, wind, water) together with battery storage produces low wholesale costs. California's retail electricity prices are quite high for a few reasons, but renewable energy is not one of them. linkedin.com/posts/stanford-… @StanfordEnergy Also, Figure 8 of this paper shows how the wholesale (spot) price of electricity on the CAISO grid dropped by 50% between 2023 and 2024 during a period when the CAISO grid saw 100% WWS for a period of 98 out of 116 days in 2024 with zero blackouts evidencing further that more renewables and storage make it easier to balance demand with supply, thus lowering the spot price of electricity. web.stanford.edu/group/efmh/…

If the clean energy transition proceeds like any other technological transition, it will indeed have failed. Only the demise of the old saves the climate. A false beat in a good Liebreich piece.
My latest for Bloomberg: "We are about to see the Great Clean Energy Acceleration 2.0 – a discontinuity in energy markets as profound as the oil shocks of the 1970s, and one that could bring forward peak fossil fuel use and emissions to this side of 2030." about.bnef.com/insights/clea…

I knew the US imports a lot of its battery cells to make battery systems. I did NOT know just how QUICKLY that is about to change... these numbers are huge🤯

Today on Volts: clean electrification is the most dynamic, hopeful sector of the economy, but when it comes to politics, it's a 98-lb weakling, a junior partner in trade groups dominated by fossil gas. Today's pod is about a new effort to change that. This is a spicy one!

Growth in solar power is exploding, and the politicians who are beholden to fossil fuel interests are making you pay more for electricity.
Global solar power output grew by 30% in 2025 and overtook wind for the first time on record 📈 A decade ago, wind power generated three times more electricity than solar. ember-energy.org/latest-insi…

Just got my @DuquesneLight bill. Since May of '25, no distribution charges have changed. The cost of supply alone has increased 30% in one year (now 11 cents/kWh). Supply is 80-95% gas, coal and nuclear. It would sure be great to have more free fuel in @pjminterconnect!

No one stole any money in Watergate. This is like 100 Watergates in one.
This is a THEFT far worse than Watergate. There is no other word for it. They are stealing $1.78 BILLION dollars to pay Trump‘s allies, despite knowing that these people are not legally entitled to any money and be laughed out of court if they filed a lawsuit for money damages.

It won’t be long in the future before people look back to today and wonder why the United States is behind the world in renewable development and paying so much more for electricity.
Yet another record on the CAISO grid. 82.8% of 24-hour demand met by in-state WWS on Sun May 17. Gas down 61.2% in '26 v '23 and down 31.1% v '25 48 straight and 114 of 138 days in 2026 with >100% WWS for part of the day
