And flags, stickers and hand dryers. All the big issues.
The difference between Reform and Plaid is becoming more apparent by the day: Solutions vs nice words. Reform's @joemartin1066 on tourism: ✅ Scrap tourism levy ✅ Lower 182 day rule for holiday lets ✅ Cut taxes on hospitality ✅ Fix transport (M4 relief road, scrap 20mph) Plaid's response: "I think it's important to say that Plaid Cymru do recognise the importance of the tourism industry to Wales" Which one sounds like a competent government to you?

Interesting stuff. Three initial comments: 1) it'd be interesting to see the language attitudes of Lab-Ref shifters 2) UK Lab need to understand how small that group is 3) that nearly 50% of Con and Ref voters would be actively unhappy to hear their grandkids speak Welsh is wild.
"Voters who stayed with Labour are considerably less happy with the idea of their family speaking Welsh compared to those that switched to Plaid Cymru... Conservative-to-Reform switchers are the most culturally hostile to Welsh-language transmission" 👇 jaclarner.github.io/jaclarne…

Cai's admirable focus on 'bread and butter issues', 'substance' and aversion to 'virtue signalling' currently seems to start and end with flags (too few/too many/the wrong ones), that MSs get laptops and phones, and the signs on handryers in the Senedd toilets.
I stand solidly behind the people of Ukraine who are rightly standing up to Putin following his illegal invasion of their country. However, the Senedd flying their flag is not doing anything to keep Russia at bay. We need to move away from virtue signalling politics. People see through it and rightfully want politicians to go back to focusing on bread-and-butter issues that will positively and noticeably impact the people of Wales, such as health, education, and the Welsh economy. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1e2…

Having one of those passage-of-time moments watching the Europa League Final. The commentator says "Villa have waited 44 long years for this" and I think "nonsense, they won the European Cup when I was a kid about 20 years ago" and then I realise and stare into space forever.

"Nobody watching any Wales team could seriously question the effort. They try. They compete honestly. They care. If anything, that only makes the whole thing feel slightly sadder". Nathaniel Hale for Gwladrugby. Welsh Rugby is Now a Simpsons Meme gwladrugby.wordpress.com/202…

Fair play. If there's anybody who would instinctively know what is popular amongst the Welsh electorate, it's a Welsh Tory.
The First Minister is wrong to have requested more Senedd powers and further devolution from the Prime Minister. Labour and Plaid have made a complete mess of what we already have; if anything, devolution should be rolled back. A good start would be to scrap the Senedd expansion and commit to no further powers. This is a very popular position amongst the electorate.

Hyfryd clywed tafodiaeth Morgannwg gan Gwyn Alf. Tafodiaeth sydd bellach bron yn angof ond sydd gymaint rhan o'n etifeddiaeth.
Here's the full clip, it's from Plaid Cymru's 1987 election broadcast

Just finished my mam's 80th birthday lunch*, a chunk of which I spent furiously refreshing the BBC Cricket page for the @GlamCricket Somerset score. County cricket, eh? Bloody hell. Whoooah, Glammy Glammy...! * yes, I'm a terrible son.

This is just insane. Incredible scenes in Gwyr/Abertawe.
Plaid Cymru top in Gwyr Abertawe, which covers most of the city of Swansea. Along with dominant displays in the two Cardiff seats, and it's a major breakthrough for the party in the country's two largest urban centres. Also did much better than expected in Newport.

Early days but Reform activists here in Pontypridd Cynon Merthyr telling me the Plaid Cymru vote is looking “overwhelming.” They say even in the Gurnos estate in Merthyr (where Nigel Farage launched his 2024 General Election campaign) looks like it’s coming through for Plaid.

Of the current crop, I think it's Chocobares who most reminds me of Gibbs' vibe. Which is an instinct to ignore gaps, size up where the opposition's defence is strongest, and run directly at that. And smash it to bits.
A force of nature at the peak of his powers 📈 🔥 Scott Gibbs 🔥

Interestingly*, at 10pm, just as polls closed, the frothing far-right fringe of my 'For You' feed pivoted from Reform-praise to Hantavirus conspiracies. Who'd have thought, eh? * not really

Or... Fans get to choose to engage with one (Squidge) but have no choice about engaging with the other (Goode et al) if they want to watch the game live. A moment's reflection on that, and why that might be, would probably serve Goode and co well.
