Wonderful discussion with the lovely Dr. Janet Dunn about Mammo-50 trial. Thank you @SABCSSanAntonio for inviting me to participate in “Snippets” sessions and thank you to Dr. Dunn for the insightful conversation ☺️ #SABCS23
Well designed study just published in @JAMAOnc finds that omission of SLNB for cT1 N0 (via axillary imagining) breast cancer results in a noninferior DDFS and similar local regional control compared to SLNB at 5 years - further data to support surgical deescalation
Study of 1463 pts w/small (<2 cm), node-negative #BreastCancer by ultrasound randomized pts to sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) or no axillary surg along w/breast surgery showed no diff in distant DFS, overall DFS, or OS indicating safe to omit SLNB #BCSMja.ma/3Zr6Q4S

.@RosenbergerMd presents prospective multi center study on genetic testing in pts w/ Phyllodes tumors. 14.5% with pathogenic/likely pathogenic variants! And many are actionable variants in pts that are typically young. Germline testing should be offered! @DukeSurgery#SSO2023
It is with deep sorrow we share the passing of Dr. Deb Mueller. She was a remarkable friend, mentor, ally, teacher, advocate, inspiration and much more to each of us.
1/
She was a beacon of light to so many and now the world is a little less bright without her. Despite this, she leaves behind a lasting legacy not only at UTHSCSA but everywhere she touched.
2/
It’s been absolutely amazing to see the female force behind breast cancer research and treatment. For this I think we have to thank the trailblazers before us. Both men and women. It takes a village to fight this disease. @AACR_CEO thank you for the example you set for all of us.
Today is International Day of Women and Girls in Science. While I am proud of AACR’s partnership with @SABCSSanAntonio to improve the lives of women with breast cancer, I am even prouder that women—led by @VKaklamani—comprise more than 50% of the #SABCS23 program committee.
Our inaugural Division of Surg Onc #Christmas#HappyHour w faculty & staff was a success!

I’m so grateful & honored to work w such an amazing group of people

Did you know that genes can play a role in your risk of getting breast cancer? About 5% to 10% of breast cancer cases are hereditary. Natalie Poullard, MA, MS, CGC, discusses the benefits of genetic testing and what you can expect during an appointment.
Marcela Mazo Canola, MD, a breast oncologist at @UTHealthSAMDA, shares tips for breast cancer prevention and reducing risks. She encourages women to become "self aware" of their bodies to recognize changes in their breasts and the importance of regular mammograms.
