Meta bought Oculus to then make it a closed platform.
We got exclusive games no one played
A metaverse built for no one and
A push for mobile standalone headsets that were locked out of the best experiences VR had to offer.
Even now that people can access PCVR wirelessly, they still need to deal with bloatware and tracking issues.
I guess we got the Quest Pro out of this and it failed, not cause the tech was bad, but because the Quest 3 was 5x cheaper and arguably a better headset.
So would VR be better without some billionaire dreaming of making the next IPhone? Yes, man. It would.
Do people really believe this?
Sure Meta has made missteps
But who else acquires Oculus for $2bn and then spends close to $100bn on the ecosystem over the next 12 years
Do people believe it would be better to stay private and way less capitalised? Or is there another buyer in this alternative universe?
