The following are seven NASA global temperature displays for May 2026, ranging from 2021-2026, with one accumulative period for these six years, using a non-static 70 year Temperature base (1951-2020).
Unlike the periods from this year’s January-April period, whereby there has been a steady decrease in temperature, May has gained a slights statistical rise, but the overall trend for 2026 is downward.
The two years (2024 & 2025) clearly show a temperature jump of approximately 0.3C, and is identified as being the result of a combination of the historic Underwater Volcanic Eruption that took place at Hunga Tonga and the El Niño event of 2023/24. Both of these events added a considerable amount of Water Vapour into the Stratosphere/Atmosphere.
The warming spike during 2024 & 2025 can be also found using separate data in similar monthly NASA displays shown earlier this year. Indicating this temperature analysis is not bias or “cherry picked”.
The scientific convention that additional atmospheric Water Vapour has only a temporary effect on the climate, looks to have been underestimated, and seems to be currently a main player in world temperature change. IMHO This extra WV should gradually reduce over the course of time, be it over the next two or more years, and consequently this will reduce world temperatures further. Unless of course there is another underwater volcanic episode or major El Niño event, or both.
Note, 2026 is forecast to have another major El Niño event, how high the level of WV/temperature will increases, is anyone’s guess. More to follow…
