1/3: As reported by @C4News, I urged the Home Office to act with compassion in Hannah Dankwa’s case. I welcome their decision to issue an emergency travel document so Hannah and her daughter can return to the UK. This must now be issued urgently.

2/3: It should never have taken public pressure for the Home Office to recognise Hannah as a vulnerable person in need of help. This highlights the urgent need for cultural change. As Wendy Williams’ review made clear: compassion must be central to decision-making.

We'd like to thank everyone who has been doing the work to keep #WindrushJustice on the agenda, and welcome the gov's commitment to wanting a 'fundamental reset'. With our collective voices, we hope lessons will be learnt and we can heal past harms.
