Yesterday, the NCAA Committee on Access, Opportunity and Impact formally recommended a National Collegiate Flag Football Championship. Its first championship would occur in spring 2028. Last week, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association voted to sanction girls varsity flag football. Girls flag football will begin competition in the fall of the 2026-27 school year. The vote to sanction girls flag football in New Jersey was a culmination of a five-year effort led by students, coaches, schools, and advocates who believed the game deserved equal standing.
