Dr. Bendera reaffirmed CDA's commitment to empowering vulnerable groups in the meeting, noting that the Authority's mandate places special emphasis on improving the welfare of women, youth,people living with disabilities and children through inclusive development initiatives that leave no one behind. "As we mark International Widows' Day on June 23, we recognize the resilience of widows and reaffirm our commitment to supporting programs that promote dignity, inclusion and economic empowerment for women in our communities," said Dr. Bendera. Galmagala Earth Fill Dam. Constructed by CDA in 2021, the Galmagala Water Pan holds up to 350,000 cubic metres of water, providing a reliable source of water for over 20,000 households and more than 200,000 livestock in Garissa County. Before its construction, water shortages threatened livelihoods, livestock survival and the local economy whenever seasonal water sources dried up. Imagine having to travel 8 km from school to home just to access a safe and accessible sanitation facility at your workplace. Thanks to the partnership between CDA and the Italian Cooperation, the Head Teacher of Midodoni Primary School Janet Tsuma now has access to a disability-friendly sanitation facility, bringing greater comfort, dignity and inclusion. Midodoni Primary School is among the many institutions benefiting from CDA-supported projects. CDA constructed, furnished and equipped a JSS laboratory in the school. Projects Sustainability begins with community ownership. For the CDA community engagement does not end when a project is completed. During a recent customer satisfaction survey in Taita-Taveta County, CDA revisited the Machungwani and Wololo boreholes, which were handed over to local communities in November 2025 to assess their impact and sustainability. Before handing over projects, CDA facilitates the formation and training of community management committees to ensure continuity, ownership, and long-term success. The visit confirmed that the communities continue to benefit from the water projects while also identifying other priority areas where CDA can support development. #taitatavetacounty #TaitaTaveta #water

In the arid lands of Taveta, access to water can mean the difference between hardship, giving up in life completely or tides changing and you get bounty harvest. Through the Challa water project, CDA helped channel water to farms in Kasokoni, opening up opportunities for irrigation and sustainable agriculture. After years of CDA training on Good Agricultural Practices and bringing water to the community through the lake Challa irrigation project, Peter Goi, Evelyn Mutuku, Rose Kadogo and many other farmers in the area have transformed farming into a thriving enterprise that supports families. Most of the stories are the same. Their stories aretestament to the many residents of Kasokoni whose livelihoods have been transformed through access to water.
