I'm still on a quest to understand what is happening at @rte and Ireland's broadcast regulator Coimisiún na Mean @CNaM_ie - I'm doing a bit of research at the moment that is yielding fascinating results. It will likely take another week or two - link will be the one in bio 🔍

Four years ago today was the last of three radio shows on @rte - thanks to @talktojoeduffy that permitted open discussion on gender identity. I was one of the speakers (c.42 minutes in). It was one of the most frazzled weeks of my life. Remember? RTÉ were called to appear before an Oireachtas committee, those of us who spoke voicing concerns about gender were compared to Putin on @IrishTimes by Una Mullally. We were demonised, trashed, and ultimately all discussion was silenced. RTE @rteliveline are now running scared and haven’t allowed open discussion since. dj.rte.ie/radio/radio1/livel…

This weekend is the Seán Dunne Literary weekend at @LafcadioHearn1 gardens in Tramore. Seán Dunne (1956-1995) was a poet from Waterford City - and was a major inspiration for me when I moved here in 2014. Wittgenstein in Ireland is from his Collected poems, published by Gallery.

Some of the best thinkers and speakers on the gender identity issue are Irish - Glinner, Helen Joyce, Stella O’Malley, Emma Hilton, Anya Palmer, James Esses… and now MJ Murphy has confirmed she too is Irish. (Sorry if I’ve missed others - feel free to add to the list)

Sorry to hear of the death of the artist David Hockney. His self-portrait, aged 17 in 1954, hangs in the David Hockney Gallery at Cartwright Hall, Bradford, one of Yorkshire's less-well known galleries, but a gem.

Any suggestions for what to do when your workplace asks you to fill in ‘diversity’ criteria and there is a category ‘gender identity’ but no option to select ‘none’ and no category for gender (understood in Irish equality legislation as the sex binary male-female)?

I actually just updated my book while thinking about this exact issue. The phrase “gender critical” is something I’ve largely accepted without questioning it. But saying humans can’t change sex isn’t a gender-critical belief. It’s a statement about reality. The label itself can unintentionally reduce an observation about biology to just another competing ideology.

This woman is so brilliant. So articulate. So educated. She’s a joy to follow. This post about how silence isn’t consensus is spot on. I loved it.

When @natty_ice2010 got kicked out of her running club right before the Boston Marathon because she dared to criticize the fact that Boston admits men into the women's category, I told her we'd start our own. So we did. It's called the @xx_xyathletics Team Women Run Club.

Religion and the modern world. Gaudí died 100 years ago. Gaudy drones today making Gaudí in the sky, godlike. The building looks beautiful but the artist - the individual - elevated above all.
