In this test I’m flying over the current world while 1000 bots move around below — with chunk streaming, instanced models, and terrain LOD blending keeping everything smooth in the browser. Now the world is filled with hundreds of moving players, chunk streaming, instanced models, and smooth transitions between real chunks and placeholder terrain. founder of zynga made a browser game engine for 3D today called "Stem Studio" Overview 🔍 • frontend: three.js react typescript • backend: @colyseus to setup multiplayer. Handles server<->client syncing and lobbies/rooms. Written in Typescript/Node.js • Gives you a scene editor right in the browser (like traditional game engines like Unity)! I think this is a first for 3D browser games • No database backend by default, bring your own to persist your game's state Looks like crazy tech tbh, I'll have to give it a try. We’re open-sourcing Stem Studio, our 3JS game engine today. This is a browser-based 3D multiplayer game engine and dev studio based on the idea that game dev should become more open, remixable, and web-native. AI will make it easier to create games. But shared building blocks will make it easier for developers to build on top of each other. Stem Studio is MIT licensed, JavaScript-based, and built for browser multiplayer 3D worlds.
