At a time when federal voting rights protections are being weakened, Maryland is taking action. The Voting Rights Act of 2026 (SB 255) gives my Office new authority to challenge election practices that dilute voting power in local elections. Every Marylander deserves a vote that counts equally.
238 years ago, Maryland became the 7th state to ratify the U.S. Constitution. Democracy has never been a guarantee. Every generation has had to fight to protect and strengthen it – and that remains true today. I’m proud that Marylanders understand this. Led by @OAGMaryland, we are fighting back against an unlawful attempt to interfere with states’ constitutional authority to administer elections – and later today, I’ll sign into law legislation to help ensure every voice is heard and every vote is counted in the state of Maryland.

How it started … how it’s going! Maryland did it! The legislature passed the Maryland Voting Rights Act, making history and protecting democracy on bill at a time. Congratulations to all the advocates to helped push it through—especially LDF’s MD Team!

Across the state, more than 16,000 Marylanders are banned from voting while they are incarcerated for a felony conviction. It’s time we abolish felony disenfranchisement. Tell you lawmakers, it’s time to pass the Voting Rights for All Act. capitalgazette.com/2026/03/1…

Today, I requested the DOJ explain their intentions with the voter registration list. Absent particularized & detailed concerns, a demand for the entire voter list, incl. sensitive PII that is not publicly available, w/o evidence or support, is an overreach & unreasonable

60 years ago, the Voting Rights Act became law—protecting the right to vote for millions. That legacy is under attack, but our fight isn’t over. Every voice matters. Every vote counts. We must keep pushing for a democracy that works for everyone. #VotingRights #VRA60
