We are very sad to learn that Sir Michael Parkinson has passed away aged 88. He was not only an outstanding journalist and broadcaster but was also a former Captain in the Royal Army Pay Corps and saw active service in Egypt during the Suez Crisis. Rest in peace, Sir Michael.

In the context of other prison inspections recently this is quite remarkable. It shows what works and why prisons need investment. Sadly there is no political will to reform prisons to mirror the Grendon model.

The Block has provided a fully managed, fully furnished single occupancy bedsit flat to a veteran who has just spent 58 days in a hostel provided to him by sefton council. Needless to say he is delighted with the support received by the Block following his Op Fortitude refferal.

We are sorry to hear about the recent loss of Second World War veteran William 'Bill' Alford, aged 102. Mr Alford served as a wireless operator in the Royal Air Force with a specially-formed unit, the 19th Wireless Observer Unit.
