On 14th February, residents came together at the iconic Carter Road Promenade for a peaceful “Jog & Talk” silent walk after a proposal to install 35 commercial LED hoardings threatened to commercialise one of Mumbai’s most loved public spaces. During the gathering, I briefed citizens on the background of the issue and the current position as it stands. Municipal Councillors Karen D’Mello and Rahebar Raja Khan also stood in solidarity, addressing residents and emphasising the importance of safeguarding public spaces and preserving the unique character of Carter Road. Following swift and united community opposition including a signature campaign the large hoarding installation was removed. Residents continue to urge the @mybmc @mybmcWardHW and Maharashtra Maritime Board @mahamaritime1 to formally cancel the permissions granted and ensure that the promenade remains a community space free from commercialisation.
