The simplicity even makes it better.
The new public walkway around Hora Lake in Bishoftu, Ethiopia, is simple, elegant, and well used.

Today I learnt an interesting and funny Kenyan phrase: 'Vyombo vya Wageni'

Do road agencies in the country have something against trees?
Ngong road is going to be the ā€œface of Nairobi and Kenya in generalā€ during Afcon 2027 for matches held in Talanta Stadium. Suggestion: All building/land owners need to be ā€œstrongly encouragedā€ to improve the external architectural look of their property. Secondly we need proper non-motorized paths plus footbridges

Classic Kenyan boomer. ā€œFagieni nyumba wageni wanakujaā€. ā€œSahani za wageni ziko wapi?ā€. The country should be made livable for us.

But who even uses footbridges? Install traffic lights and zebra crossings.

Indeed it will be the face of the new Nairobi. No tree in sight. Just dust!

Kenya’s problem is not a shortage of stadiums. It is a shortage of sustainable stadium management. tsjafrica.substack.com/p/a-s… VIA @TSJAfrica

ā€œI don’t understand why people hate Elon Musk so much.ā€ It’s easy to explain. Jealousy. Resentment. Envy. Stupidity. Those are basic. Economic illiteracy and hatred of free speech also play a part.

I know how Elon Musk became a trillionaire, but I don't know how Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Nancy Pelosi became millionaires.

Elon Musk: There are no lords and peasants at Tesla. Everyone eats at the same table. ā€œI actually know the people on the line, because I worked on the line, I walked the line, I slept in the factory, and I worked beside them. So, I'm no stranger to them. There are many people at Tesla who have gone from working on the line to being in senior management. There are no lords and peasants. Everyone eats at the same table. Everyone parks in the same parking lot. At GM, there's a special elevator only for senior executives. We have no such thing at Tesla. We give everyone stock options. Many people who are just working the line, who didn't even know what stocks were, we've made them millionaires. And I just want to say that I'm incredibly appreciative of those who build the cars, and they know it.ā€ New York Times DealBook Summit, 2023

I honestly don’t think we’re ready for this Eastleigh conversation. Few Observations,. You buy something in the majority of those shops and they want cash. If you don’t have cash, they have their own MPesa agents they tell you to withdraw from. They then make a quick call to the agent to confirm the withdrawal before releasing your goods. That way, they never have to explain their cash flow, but you may one day have to explain yours to the taxman. We’re talking about a multi billion shilling industry with very little transparency, accountability or visibility into how money moves. And as long as they remain the middlemen, pay zero tax, sell ā€œcounterfeit goodsā€ the government is comfortable But how dare you use the same business model, open your own wholesale operation and bring your own goods through the port?…..

Jeff Bezos bought a superyacht. Mukesh Ambani built Antilia. Zuckerberg built a Hawaii bunker. Elon sold all his mansions, lives in a 375 sq ft prefab box worth $50,000 near a rocket launch site in Texas. And just became the world's first trillionaire. Consumption vs Creation. The builder always wins.
