OurCoop is now helping community energy groups power 65,000 homes with renewable energy, through over 380 partnerships with groups across the UK.
That's more than a third of all community-generated renewable energy in the country, saving over 800 tonnes of CO2 per year.
🏡 Housing co-ops work. The problem is that UK law doesn't have a home for them.
Without a proper co-operative housing tenure, co-ops have to work to legal structures built for something else, making them harder to set up, harder to scale, and harder to access.
On the 7th of May, over 1,100 Co-operative candidates will stand across the UK, contesting more than 1 in 5 seats up for election, in over 120 councils.
Vote Labour and Co-operative on 7 May.
Today, the Co-operative Party is launching Yes in Our Backyard - our new report on community-led housing in the UK.
The housing crisis is one of the defining failures of modern Britain. 🧵
Fantastic news and huge progress from a few years ago. A real chance to convey the power of co-operation and the role co-operatives can play to the electorate at a time when that is needed more than ever.
🎊 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣! 🎊
We're standing over 1,000 candidates at this year's Local Elections.
Our Labour and Co-operative candidates will make the case for local power, local ownership, local wealth, and local pride. 🌹🐝
A massive campaign win for our members and the credit union movement.
Millions more people will have access to fairer borrowing and saving because of today's reforms.
Growing credit unions, growing our movement, growing our economy.
The Gorton and Denton by-election is approaching, so I think this deserves revisiting.
Farage squirms as Rep. Jamie Raskin obliterates the "Putin-loving, free speech imposter, Trump sycophant".
Please share as widely as possible. The news media have a habit of forgetting about Farage's service to Russia.
I was a citizen of the EU for most of my adult life, and it gave me the right to live, work, travel or retire anywhere in the EU.
This was taken away by Brexit which was led by those with close ties to Russia.
Resist Russia and Trump and Musk.
Rejoin the EU.
📊 The Brexit majority hasn’t just slipped 👉it’s vanished. Completely.
This chart from Peter Kellner/YouGov shows:
• 5 million 2016 voters have died
• New young voters back Rejoin by 5:1
• 29% of Leave voters now want to rejoin
• Net result: Rejoin 19.8m vs Stay Out 11.7m
➡️ An 8 MILLION majority for Rejoin.
Britain is now a pro-EU country.
The only people keeping Brexit alive are politicians who benefit from the damage.
9 years on, Brexit no longer has a mandate.
The Leave majority has literally died out.
New analysis shows:
🔹 8 million majority now want to rejoin
🔹 Brexit has shrunk the UK economy by 8%
🔹 Only 25% of Leave voters think it was a success
🔹 The 2025 “reset” fixes less than one-tenth of the damage
And yet Westminster still behaves as if 2016 voters - many no longer with us - outrank the young, the living, and the future.
Brexit is being kept alive by a political class that gains from it, not by the public.

I totally agree. The @CoopParty has really been demonstrating its value in the last couple of years, getting co-ops firmly on the agenda of government with the commitment to work to double the size of the sector and even a mention in @RachelReevesMP's budget speech.
Great to hear from @mycoopfood President and @midcountiescoop President at the confirmation meeting of the proposed merger of 2 great Co-operative Societies, that they will continue to support @CoopParty as active members and will work to double the Co-operative Sector.
💼 IN THE BUDGET:
Chancellor Rachel Reeves confirms a call for evidence on support for co-op growth, as part of our shared mission to double the size of the co-operative sector.
Passionate and powerful speech from @Miatsf at #coopconf25 highlights how co-ops offer the most powerful model for rebuilding an economy rooted in our communities.
Housing and Communities Minister @SteveReedMP gives a powerful speech at #coopconf25 describes a new politics where people not politicians shape the future and underlined the govt's support for housing co-ops which will form a key part of the government's social housing plans.
Barnstorming speech by Industry Minister @peterkyle#coopconf25 reiterating the government's commitment to doubling the size of the co-operative and mutual sector through targeted business support at all levels. He also stressed the relevance of co-operation in today's context.
