Interesting point at last week's webinar of the UsersTCP Academy how the licence to operate concept originated in the mining industry, but is since being introduced in other sectors such as energy, agriculture, infrastructure and tourism.

A glimpse into what's inside an elevator sign. The lifetime of these electronics is probably around 10 years, using 40 minerals. About 10% copper. #circularity
Nice story of a successful wire & cable producer in India, driven by a second-generation entrepreneur working over 40 years in the business.

Copper in solar panels: 1% of material weight, 6% of material value - diva-portal.org/smash/get/di…
In all electrical and electronic equipment, copper represents between 1 and 10% of material use, but punches well above its weight on circularity.
ALT Material content and value in photovoltaic panels. Glass, aluminium and polymers represent over 93% of the weight for 24% of the value. For silicon, silver and copper, these numbers are respectively 4.3% and 75%.
Actually thinking about this a little further and including the precious metals processed through the copper recycling system (in this case silver), it's still 1% of the weight, but now it becomes 30% of the value.
Great news that newly sold #electricmotors are increasingly efficient. However, this saving potential is hampered by too many old motors being operated much longer than anticipated. We need parallel incentivizing replacement programmes.

Copper quote of the week:
"Copper is the irreplaceable arteries and veins of an electrified, low carbon future."
And to continue the metaphor, copper is also in the beating heart and receiving organs of the electricity system. @thinkcopper @ElectricityUeasternnewmexiconews.com/sto…
Copper =
* an element
* a mineral
* a base metal
* an extensive product range
* a suite of applications
* interwoven with history
* a 200 B$ global industry pivotal for the energy transition and a circular economy
"It is the most beautiful subject possible for mathematical analysis."
~ William Thomson, when working out the physics for sending a signal along the first transatlantic copper cable in the 19th century.
Join us on March 23rd for the 4th webinar of our Electrification Academy with @RegAssistProj. In this event, @nh_nikos and Iony Patriota de Siqueira will present their new @CIGREWorld Green Book on electricity systems of the future. Register at copperalliance.zoom.us/webin…
A glimpse of what's to come in our increasingly electromagnetic environment? Urban systems are much stronger than rural systems, but they are also subject to much more "electrosmog".
Copper's value is in the assemblage of its many useful properties:
* conductivity
* mechanical strenght
* resistance to high temperature
* corrosion resistance
* compactness
* electrochemistry
* ductility
