🎉 Exciting milestone: Our first @angew_chem cover is out! It was a real pleasure illustrating the work of Drs. @GuillaumeDeBo and @LeiChen63199376 on their fascinating paper: “Logic-Gated Release of a Dual Payload from a β-Lactam Mechanophore with a Rotaxane Actuator.” This cover shows how two stimuli, force and water, are necessary to unlock the release of various drugs from a rotaxane molecular device. Mechanical force is used to break a β-lactam mechanophore with the help of a rotaxane actuator illustrated by a pillar[5]arene macrocycle threaded onto a rope. The scission of the β-lactam ring reveals an imine, which is subsequently hydrolysed in the presence of water to unlock the release of drug molecules. 🗞️ Learn more about the paper: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/… Grateful for the opportunity to visualize such elegant and complex chemistry. Always inspiring to see how structure and motion come together at the molecular level. If you're working in this space, or just love seeing chemistry come to life, I’d love to hear from you! #AngewandteChemie #ScientificIllustration #Chemistry #CoverArt #Rotaxane #SciComm #SciArt #DrawImpacts -- 👩‍🎨 I’m Emma Vidal, founder and illustrator at @DrawImpacts.
