Not defending point shaving, but if you are booking $80K pops on mid major CBB 1Hs, you deserve it.
20 men were charged in a point-shaving scheme involving more than 39 college basketball players on more than 17 NCAA Division I teams and leading to more than 29 games being fixed, according to an indictment unsealed Thursday.

It was 1960, and everyone had a personal OTB in their hands, handle would be about $1B. The suicide of the racing industry is an all time case study.
29 Dec 2025
Santa Anita reported an on-track crowd of 41,962 for their delayed opening day, up 400 from 2024. While on-track handle increased from $2,657871 to $2,760,164, total handle fell 15.3% from $21,490,546 to $18,209,076. Did going against the NFL make the difference?

1944 Met Mile: Per capita handle was $1,600. You cannot understate how bad this bag was fumbled.

Tom - $170B will be wagered on sports in 2025. You don’t need subsidies, you need a product that will compete for the abundant gambling dollar. Everything California does chases away the horseplayer.

Top Jockeys, Top Horses. Incredible weather and a crowd that feels like 40,000 plus. Horseracing is loved in California. We just need to find a way to compete with the more cash-rich jurisdictions.

Is it safe to say that priming a PPH book is officially -EV? Or at the very least it’s sub optimal when considering you could be priming a Rec?

Of said 15 CAWs, there is one clear leader and one clear runner up. The dwindling horseplayer population doesn’t even realize that the “mythical” CAWs are like two people and some support staff.

They get vetted, sign a contract and get assigned a TRA code like an ADW does which tracks all their wagering. Their own individual TRA code. Tote system access for direct wagering through their models. Maybe 15 of them give or take

Don’t get me wrong - there will always be an edge to be had. But 1% means very different things to different people: it’s incredible for an institution, but it’s death to a weekend warrior. I’d guesstimate the break even point for most mid size groups is gross 4%.

@robpizzola recently mentioned pros were struggling to win at cbb this year. Let's take a look at market efficiency for Totals. Here's the avg absolute mean error for both the opener (top) and close (bottom) by year. If my numbers are right*, the market opener this year is *significantly* more accurate than the close from all recent years. 👀 * These numbers exclude some games where I don't generate predictions * Someone double-check my numbers, please.
