We are pleased to see positive steps toward finalizing the Turnberry Agreement, which has the potential to significantly expand trade between the U.S. and EU. The EU is already one of the most important markets for American corn refiners, and we are excited about the possibility of improved market access through this agreement.
The United States welcomes the progress made by the European Union toward implementing the Turnberry Agreement that stands to deliver historic market access for American exporters.
We will continue to review certain limiting amendments included in the EU’s current legislation to assess whether it complies with the Joint Statement. To be clear, tariff cuts are only one aspect of the Agreement—the EU must also address the non-tariff barriers and regulatory matters identified in the Joint Statement, which have unfairly limited U.S. market access to the EU for years.
