COUP 53 is a must-watch investigative documentary. It’s made by independent British-Iranian filmmaker Taghi Amirani.
For a brief period of time Iran was moving towards democracy. It’s Prime Minister was Mohammad Mossadegh who served for a total of a little over two years, across two consecutive terms, from April 1951 until the coup of August 1953 (with a brief interruption of five days in July 1952).
That coup was orchestrated by British & American secret services. I urge you to watch this compelling and important piece of film making which is in cinemas now . @tagz23

American officials repeatedly speak of “47 years” of confrontation with Iran. This is a deliberate distortion of history; the U.S. hostility toward the Iranian nation did not begin in 1979 — it began in 1953. For more than 73 years, the Iranian people have endured a long record of American intervention, sanctions, threats, and military aggression.

Lived experience becomes problematic when it is used against a whole nation or country. When it comes to the difference between you and me, my position is shaped by lived experience and by inheriting the legacy of an MI6/CIA coup through history and family, whereas yours comes from sitting in the West and discussing “differences in worldviews”. That is where things become problematic.
Do yourself a favour and at least watch the @Coup53 documentary. It is brilliantly made, and you clearly need an understanding of it.
