Deep dive on hantavirus ↗ LinkedIn Viremia → prodrome → ARDS → collapse. Antivirals work early or not at all. Steroids, JAK inhibitors, icatibant are experimental. ECMO is not a last resort... Full breakdown 👇 #CriticalCare #FOAMcc #ICU #MedEd

This NEW OUTDOOR ICU rooftop garden may change how hospitals think about critical care recovery forever. Would you want an outdoor ICU space at your hospital? Gives critically ill patients something many haven’t experienced in months: fresh air, sunlight, and a connection to the outdoors. “I forgot what it feels like to be outside.” After 2 months in the ICU, a 29-year-old patient was taken onto the UK’s new rooftop intensive care garden—and became emotional experiencing fresh air and sunlight again. This may be the future of critical care. Could nature help reduce delirium, anxiety, stress, and even accelerate recovery? As ICU clinicians, we spend enormous effort optimizing medications, ventilation, nutrition, mobility, and technology. Perhaps we should also be optimizing access to sunlight, fresh air, and the healing power of nature. Would you want access to an outdoor healing space if you were recovering in the ICU? #CriticalCare #ICU #ICURehab #Medicine #Healthcare #ICURecovery #Delirium #Rehabilitation

Suspect hantavirus? Get an exposure history. Deer mice = prairies & western Canada. Incubation 14–42 days. Prodrome (fever, myalgia, GI sx) → rapidly progressive ARDS. Send IgM serology whole-blood pan-hantavirus PCR. More with Prof. Sligl 👇 #CriticalCare #FOAMcc #ICU

Haemodynamic equations are useful. But they also mislead. Take: CO = HR × SV CO ≈ (MAP − RAP) / SVR Both are mathematically true. But they can make the variables they contain look like the controllers of output. Often they are not. In the intact circulation, these equations describe the resolved state of the system. They do not, by themselves, tell you what is supplying energy, what is constraining flow, or what is actually limiting output. That is one of the central themes of our review: Energy, flow and pressure in the cardiovascular system: a narrative review of how the circulation works. doi.org/10.1111/anae.70238
