One of the highlights every year of the Sport Movement Skill Conference is the VIP Social held on Friday night.
This year’s group (image excludes a few people who were there earlier) got together to break bread & talk shop in a more relaxed, informal fashion.
Though every SMSC is exhausting & contains very long days, it is the situations like these, containing moments of fellowship & interaction, that help make it all worthwhile.
Also special S/O to @mke_mma & @SBGAthens for a fun trip deep down the rabbit hole around a Q I’ve been wrestling with daily related to relevant, specifying informational variables across MMA & football & how we can effectively facilitate an athlete’s coupling to them in training (based on the speeds & intensity the athlete executes at).
Told you over & over again that the Sport Movement Skill Conference does it differently than any other coaching education event does it!

Showdown at the Sport Movement Skill Conference!
What happens when theories & practice perspectives collide?!
Come find out on June 5-6th in Minnesota at #SMSC26!
What if two coaches completely disagreed on how to develop skill?
At most clinics, you hear one perspective.
At the Sport Movement Skill Conference 2026…
You’ll hear multiple—and watch them clash.
Because progress comes from friction.

Light aerobic training, done with proper sequencing and progressions, helps preserve and support power.
Focusing on bad programs that do too much of a good thing is just a bad argument.
Countless programs scoff at aerobic work to befriend athletes. We need to be honest here.
The 3 head-to-head debates taking place at the Sport Movement Skill Conference 2026 (6/5-6/6 in MN) are an opportunity to genuinely connect around a shared topic of importance (e.g., gamespeed, the nature of repetition, emphasizing speed in athlete development).
We feel that for the debate participants, and the attendees from the community alike, this will bring everyone to the Challenge Point...fostering deep and critical thinking, improves communication, and boosting our own confidence by requiring all to analyze, defend, and critique opposing viewpoints in real-time.
S/O to the individuals willing to exist in that crucial space!
Will you be one of them?!

In Japanese, "tsundoku" means collecting books and letting them pile up,
not from neglect,
but for the joy of knowing they're there,
full of untold stories.
Repetition after repetition...and/or repetition without repetition?!
When trying to learn any skill, chasing development & transfer, what should execution in practice look like?

Have you read the textbook Supertraining before? If not let us help you read this book this year.
Click below and we will send you the reading plan that is broken up into easy daily readings Mon-Fri. You will also get a podcast episode with Yosef Johnson and I where we explain the week reading.
SCN members you have this reading plan in your inbox - enjoy reading this book.
If you have not read this book you NEED to. Too many S&C coaches think they have invented something in S&C when it was in this book YEARS ago. Read this book and understand the science behind what we are doing as S&C coaches - and let Yosef and I be your tour guides through the book.
