Option C (the not listed one)
Make it like Louie did - have a different exercise each week that they can hit a new PR each week of the month when they beat the prior week's PR
Example:
Week 1 - 10 yard 2 point stance sprint
Week 2 - 15 yard lateral half kneeling sprint
Week 3 - 10 yard weighted 3 point stance sprint
Week 4 - Build 20 Fly 10 sprint
then go beat your PR in weeks 5-8 and now they set a standard and beat it and you have done both - monthly trends improve and you can tell kids they hit x number of PRs.
Now they (and coaches, admin, parents, etc...) all can feel extra confident they are improving.
The mind is a powerful muscle.
As a Coach, which measurements do you pay attention to more for development and overall improvement in terms of sprints and jumps.
Monthly Averages or PR’s?
Personally, PR’s are great, but as a coach I prefer looking and comparing averages monthly, because that shows an improvement overall.
I’ve found with certain circumstances or variables, an individual might not hit a new PR every month.
However, if the average improves than to me that’s showing an overall improvement within that athlete.
Thoughts?
