A source close to the investigation confirmed that it was an employee of the Veranda House who was smoking on the porch and whose disposed cigarette ultimately started the fire.

Officials say the improper disposal of smoking materials (i.e. cigarettes) was the likely cause of the fire at the Veranda House and that the fire started beneath the front porch where trash is stored. #nantucket

A mysterious piece of timber was discovered on Jetties Beach this morning by the Kempin Family, visiting the island for the week from Katonah, New York. It’s unclear at this time where the wood is from, but we will provide updates as they become available at @ack.net @InkyM

The MIAA Tournament Management Committee is set to meet at 10am. On the agenda is sure to be a final regular season date for sports under the 9/14 start day, what a postseason format would look like, and postseason eligibility.

The MIAA Board of Directors has voted to delay the start of the 2020 Fall sports season. Sports approved for participation by DESE, EEA, and local school district, will start no earlier than Sept. 14, 2020, (tryouts/practices).
