When I say not to give into cynicism or the “black pill,” what I don’t mean is to have a Pollyanna-esque, naive optimism; that crap always annoyed me. No, what I mean is that I fundamentally believe on a neurological level that cynicism genuinely affects you in ways that can even become physiological. I believe it because I experienced it. You don’t need to pretend things are the way they aren’t, and lie through a smile about happiness, but you can keep your mind on the good (Phil. 4:8, Col. 3:1-2) and live grateful to God for what He has blessed you with. I believe this is the mentally, spiritually, AND physically healthy way to live.
