I’ve been talking a lot lately about my new products where I teach #designsystems, so a lot of people have been asking to see design systems that I’ve made. That’s a fair and reasonable request! In tomorrow’s newsletter, I’ll show my design system portfolio to 28,200 subscribers. It probably doesn’t look like what you’d expect. Subscribe here to see it: danmall.com/newsletter/

This is probably one of my favorite episodes in our Elevate Show. I've made many mistakes in the past, unethical ones, and I hope this helps some out there to make better decisions. Available on youtube or on your favorite podcast platform! bit.ly/ethicaldataviz
Good design doesn't always mean ethical design. What should you consider to dataviz responsibly? In our most recent #ElevateShow, we talk about our different experiences and guardrails we use for our work. youtu.be/moCpkFwouH0

In this world of privilege and gate keeping, it's really inspiring to see design leaders sharing their income, no to boast but simply for transparency.

I have a more to say about design and money than fits in one tweet, thread, article, or podcast episode, but please consider this my starting point: Salary & Income transparency. Some details and context around how much I’ve made each of the last 19 years of my career: 🧵

The ways AI can perpetuate bias (thanks to the data used for training) are disheartening yet unsurprising. But don't miss the punch line: "The AI model doesn’t just replicate stereotypes or disparities that exist in the real world — it amplifies them to alarming lengths."
🚨Generative AI has a serious problem with bias🚨 Over months of reporting, @dinabass and I looked at thousands of images from @StableDiffusion and found that text-to-image AI takes gender and racial stereotypes to extremes worse than in the real world. 🧵 1/13

Incredibly proud of creating my first talk without a single example from a US-based org. Today at noon in the building where it all started many moons ago. Featuring examples from Belarus, South Korea, India, Israel, Mexico, Thailand and more.... @BrownInstitute

Creativity is a muscle 💪🏻🌸
“Every time you like something, like an art piece or a tree on a leaf, ask yourself: Why do I like this? Why do I find this aesthetically pleasing? Why do I emotionally respond to this? Then analyze specifically the design pieces that make you feel that way. Take notes!” 1/
