This is Luke, one of our learning disability nurses, and something else that makes the profession unique this National Learning Disability Nurses' day.
Learning disability nurses work in a variety of health, education, prison and social care services – both specialist and mainstream.
Here's Jackie and another aspect of learning disability nursing that makes it unique.
Learning disability nurses work to enable people to be as independent as possible and develop strategies for integration – overcoming barriers and discrimination.

Hopefully you've seen today how unique the learning disability nursing profession is and you've enjoyed seeing the faces of some of our nurses who work at Combined Healthcare, including Sarue pictured here.
A final aspect of the profession that makes it unique that the team wanted to share is that learning disability nurses have expert clinical and communication skills to meet the need of people with a learning disability.
Thank you to all of our learning disability nurses and teams across the trust, we appreciate all that you do!

Facing OCD can feel scary and lonely, especially when symptoms first appear. If you could share a message of support with your younger self, what would it be?

It really helps me remember why I do what I do, so inspiring - thank you for reminding us @kennylaingnurse

IT DOESN'T MEAN THEY DON'T HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY;
FIGHTING FOR A CHANCE TO COMPLETE A TASK WITH DIGNITY AND INDEPENDENCE IS A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT FOR EVERYONE AT THE END OF THE DAY.
PEOPLE WITH CEREBRAL PALSY ARE AFFECTED IN DIFFERENT WAYS, DON'T BE AFRAID TO TALK, THEY HAVE THE SAME FEELINGS AND UNDERSTAND;
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THINGS MAY NOT BE SEEN,
BUT ARE CERTAINLY FELT BY THE HEART WITH ACCEPTANCE AND GUIDANCE WE CAN ALL LEND A HAND.
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE SOMEONE WITH CEREBRAL PALSY, WHAT THEY HAVE IS NOT A DISEASE OR CONTAGIOUS;
THEY ARE AS VALUABLE TO THE WORLD AS ANYONE ELSE,
THEY ARE HUMANS FACING EXTRA CHALLENGES AND BEING COURAGEOUS.
IT'S HARD TO CHANGE A PERSONS PERCEPTION OF WHO A PERSON WITH A DISABILITY IS, BUT, THE MORE WE TEACH AND CARE, THE MORE THEY CAN DO; THEY DO THE SAME THINGS IN A DIFFERENT WAY, THEY CAN BE STRONG AND CAPABLE, DON
