For years, some Americans have sneered unfairly at "Europoors". Now, European degrowthers want to make "Europoors" into a reality. noahpinion.blog/p/degrowth-w…

"Willingness to discriminate" is strongest for hiring decisions in most research on this topic. For a substantial part of liberal academia, it seems conservatives are welcome to come and give talks, but they should not be hired.
Replying to @jon_stewartmill
Even if most respondents say they wouldn't themselves engage in hiring discrimination, they think most of their *colleagues* would. (Perhaps a case of social desirability bias? 🤔)

Still, media of all political leanings seem to focus mostly on deplatforming incidents, thus ignoring the more consequential discrimination.

Slobodian, de Blommaert van Boston.
If a historian on the right abused evidence in this way, they'd face career ruination. When Boston University's Quinn Slobodian does it, he gets a Guggenheim fellowship, book awards, and a Hewlett Foundation grant. Academia's rot runs far deeper than a simple crisis of rigor.

Should we protect baby octopuses used in research, even if we don't know whether they can feel pain? We have a new paper out in Laboratory Animals that explores who thinks what, and why. 1/

Second for second, @tylercowen packs more substance into a talk than anyone I'm aware of. This is a clear, non-hysterical, and somewhat soothing discussion of our AI future.

een ethiek van het luisteren is minstens zo belangrijk als een ethiek van het spreken.

I may still have reason to believe that ideology steers analytical decisions, but this particular piece of evidence no longer provides evidence for that claim.
let's see whether this will receive the same level of attention. the paper here: osf.io/4sepa_v2

Totally worth the pain at the pump though considering all the strategic successes: replacing one Ayatollah with his son, sinking a bunch of Iranian ships that were of no threat to us, & murdering 150 girls with a tomahawk missile
